December 2014

Merry Christmas Gary, to you, Faye and all your family and friends. God challenged me some this year, but he then overcame all the challenges for me. Early in the year my eye sight started failing, and I went blind in both eyes’'. I had a cyst on my right optic nerve, and cataracts in both eyes, and the beginning stages of macular degeneration brought on by diabetes. It took the VA about three months to find a surgeon with the skills and experience to remove the cyst, which they did, and through the intervention of God, I am sure, he willingly came to the VA hospital in Pittsburgh and successfully removed the cyst and the cataract from my right eye. This surgeon then returned to the hospital a month later and removed the cataract from my left eye. In the process, he replaced my lens’ with artificial lenses and now I have 20-20 vision, Just need reading glasses, and in my follow up examination last week, my eyes are in “perfect” condition, according to the VA ophthalmologist there is no longer any sign of macular degeneration. I can only see the healing hand of Christ in all this. Then, two months ago, I started having severe pain in my lower abdominal cavity, thinking I pulled a muscle or something, when it got too bad, I went to see my doctor at the VA clinic. Doctor Cash diagnosed appendicitis and sent me to the VA hospital in Altoona, where they did a CAT scan, confirmed the diagnosis, put me in an ambulance and sent me to the UPMC hospital. At the hospital, they had to put me on platelets, IV’s in both arms and right hand for 12 hours to thicken my blood. Laparoscopic surgery was attempted, but failed due to so much scar tissue in my abdominal cavity, they had to make an incision, midline, from the center of my breast bone, through the belly button and extending four inches further down to my pubic area. The surgery lasted five and a half hours and a six day stay in the hospital. The surgeon told me that just to find the appendix he had to cut away about three pounds of scar tissue. left over as a gift of the Vietnam war, LOL. I am doing fine now, thanks to God’s intervention, but I still need to learn, for last week, somehow, and I truly do not know how, I did something that caused a hairline fracture to my right hip. Not walking well, at the moment, and a lot of pain, but thank God, it will heal. I am looking forward to a wonderful Christmas and what God brings me in the new year. I wish all the best for you, Faye and all your family and friends.
Love and Light of Christ our Lord, I send you,
Rodger
