The Origin of the Santa Claus Myth

The American Santa Claus originally came the Dutch Saint Nicholas. The Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam, which is now New York, brought this to America. The single most important source for our modern day version of Santa Claus comes from the Christmas poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore in 1822 Here is a nifty page with it Also a famous picture of Santa Claus by Thomas Nast gave us an idea of what Santa Claus should look like. You can find it here along with more information on Santa Claus, which coincidentally is a mispronunciation of our Dutch pronunciation of Sinterklaas. Through personal experience and word of mouth, I have come to the conclusion that there is no Santa Claus. The real reason for Christmas was and is the birth of our savior Jesus Christ.
