The Belize Mission & Retreat is located on 7 acres near Gales Point Village, 3 miles south of the Manatee Bar River on the central Caribbean coast of Belize. Our facility is very remote with the Southern Lagoon to the West and the Caribbean to the East. Currently we only have access by boat when the seas are calm. Or we have the option of a seven mile walk from the village. There is the first phase of a road under construction that will take us from the Lagoon to the Mission Base at Turtle Shores which will be a mile and a quarter walk after shuttling across the lagoon in either a boat or ferry.
The facilities consist of our 3 story main lodge, with a first floor dorm, which sleeps 20 in bunkbeds, two bathrooms, staff quarters, laundry, linens, and storage.
On the second level we have the Greatroom, with a dining room, lounge and kitchen, with all hand made furnishings made from an exotic "Malina" wood native to Belize. We also have an office and two restrooms and a large veranda with hammocks.
The third floor or loft is a dorm or bunkhouse for youth groups and church teams, which will sleep 10 in bunkbeds.
There is a lookout deck on top of the lodge, which provides an incredible 360' view of the beautiful property, beach and Caribbean Sea to the East and Rain Forest or jungle with Maya Mountains in the West. This deck is an awesome location for viewing the sunrises and sunsets, as well as stargazing.
There are two duplex cabanas. Each with a balcony and private bathrooms. Each cabin is also individually decorated with hand made furniture made from exotic "Malina" wood.
Construction of the Welcome center and Chapel will be in stages, as funds are raised and skilled volunteers are recruited.
Construction of the Directors home, multi purpose rooms and additional cabanas will be constructed by mission builder teams, as time and resources allow.
Canvas-walled tent cabins on wood platforms, furnished with cots and linens, will also be constructed for those who want to "rough it".
The grounds will be a great place to relax, since the setting is naturally beautiful, on the Caribbean. Year round average temperatures are in the 80's during the day and in the 70's at night, with high humidity, tropical breezes are the natural air conditioning for most of the year.
