DENVER - Friends and relatives here and in surrounding communities were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death in Aberdeen Hospital Wednesday morning of Edwin Smith formerly of Smithfield, Guysborough Co., but who lived here for the past two years, where he was engaged in lumbering operations with the Cameron Brothers of Newtown.

Although not enjoying good health for the past year Mr. Smith was able to be about his work until October when he received a bad strain which forced him to give up his work, but his condition was not considered serious until he entered the hospital the week before his death. It was decided that an emergency operation was necessary, and he passed away the morning after it.

He was well liked by all who knew him.

His only child was killed by a car while crossing the street just two years ago.

He is survived by his widow the former Ethel Archibald of Denver;
his mother, Mrs. Doris Fulton, New Glasgow;
and three brothers,
Milton of Smithfield; and
Herman and Arnold of Ontario, who were both called home but arrived after their brother had died.

The funeral was held in the Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen and was one of the largest ever held.

The service was conducted by his pastor Rev. Douglas Wilson of Blue Mountain, who brought a comforting message to the bereaved. He was assisted by Rev. Ralph Webber, Sherbrooke, who read the Scripture.
There were many floral offerings.
The Odd Fellows attended in a body and conducted their service at the grave side.
Pall bearers were Hugh Cameron, John Jordan, George Cruickshank, Otto Cruickshank, Cecil Smith and Sydney MacIntosh.
The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Elmer Greene, led in the singing of favorite Hymns, and Merritt Archibald sang "Beyond the Sunset."
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
