Capt. Belmont James Lumsden

LUMSDEN, Capt. Belmont James - 82,
Canso, died February 12, 1993,
in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso.
Born in Canso, he was a son of the
late James William and Elizabeth Jane (Newell) Lumsden.
He was a retired fisherman. He was a member of
Canso United Baptist Church; honorary member of
Canso Volunteer Fire Department and Fishermen's Disaster Fund,
Canso; former town councillor, former board member
of the Credit Union and former town policeman
and harbour master; volunteer for the Canso Regetta
for waterfront activities. He is survived by
two daughters, Linda (Mrs. John Armsworthy), Big Island;
Ruth (Mrs. Thomas Hanlon), Canso; five sons, Edison,
Clyde, Gerry, all of Canso; Belmont,
Imperial, Sask; Bruce, Kingston,
Kings County; two sisters, Evelyn Uloth, Peas Brook,
Dorothy Burns, Dartmouth; 26 grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife,
the former Edith Lena Roberts; daughter, Winnifred Avis;
grandson, Robert; three sisters. The body is in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home,
Canso, visiting 2-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 2 p.m.
Sunday in Canso United Baptist Church, Pastor David Wheeler
officiating, assisted by Rev. Stanley Worth. Burial will be
in Union Cemetery, Canso. Donations may be made to Eastern Memorial Hospital.
