E.W. Sutherland dies at 73
Guysborough County, died Tuesday in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Denver, he was a son of the late Wellington E. and Margaret (MacLeod) Sutherland.
He was a resident of Denver most of his married life.
He attended New Town School and furthered his studies at Nova Scotia Technical College, New Glasgow.
He was a former employee at Maritime Steel Limited, New Glasgow, and was a former post-master in Denver for several years.
He was a self-employed truck driver, lumberman and bus driver for St. Mary's Rural High School.
He was chief guide with Sherbrooke Village Project and was a Department of Transportation dispatcher prior to retirement.
He had been councillor for District 10, Municipality of District of St. Mary's, for the past 17 years, and had been warden for the past 10 years.
He was a commissioner of oath for the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.
He was a member of Union of Municipalities of Nova Scotia and 50-year member of Queen's Masonic Lodge 34, Sherbrooke.
He was a member of Kirk Memorial United Church in Aspen, Guysborough County, and served as an elder.
He was past chairman of St. Mary's District School Board;
past president of St. Mary's Homemakers Association and member of E.M.O. Association of Nova Scotia.

He is survived by his wife, the former Alice MacKeen;
two sons, Vernon E., Dartmouth;
Douglas G., Denver;
two daughters, Olive (Mrs. Eldon Archibald), Denver;
Wanda Greenough, Dartmouth;
14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Harry, Howard, John William in infancy.
The body will be in Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen, Guysborough County, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Thursday, and where funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Rev. George Micklewait officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Steeple Fund of Kirk Memorial United Church, Evergreen Cemetery Fund or any charity.
