Alexander William Hurst

HURST, Alexander William Reid - 90,
Port Hilford, Guysborough Co., died August 27, 1998,
in High Crest Sherbrooke Nursing Home.
Born in Port Hilford, he was a son of the
late John and Harriet (Reid) Hurst.
He had been a resident of Port Hilford all of his life
and was a retired fisherman, trapper, licensed guide and scaler
for Nova Scotia. He was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church,
Indian Harbour Lake; past master of Queens Masonic Lodge 35,
Sherbrooke; past district depuity of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia;
and a recipient of the 50-year jewel in 1996.
He was worthy grand patron several times and past patron
of Florence Fraser Chapter 47, OES, Sherbrooke,
and lifelong member of St. Mary's Fish and Game Association
and St. Mary's River Association.
He was a violinist with a local seniors band a
nd church organist for a time. Surviving are sons,
Donald, West River, Antigonish Co.; Francis, Lower Sackville;
Sherman, New Glasgow; daughter, Mona (Mrs. Douglas Mills),
Port Hilford; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
brother, Asa, Port Hilford; sister, Charlotte
(Mrs. James Furlong), Port Hilford. He was predeceased by
his wife, the former Augusta Jordan;
infant granddaughters, Monica Marie, Mary Kenena;
brothers, Robert, Reginald. Funeral was Saturday in
St. Thomas Anglican Church, Indian Harbour Lake,
Rev. Brian Hutchins officiating. Burial followed in
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Indian Harbour Lake. Donations
to St. Thomas Anglican Church or any charity.
