WORTH, Walter Warren - 73,
Cross Roads Country Harbour, Guysborough Co., died peacefully at home,
May 4, 1998, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cross Roads Country Harbour, he was a son of
the late Henry Edward and Sarah Jane (Mason) Worth.
He was a man of great strength and wisdom who always thought of others
before himself even in his final days.
The simple things in life gave him great joy
and his family and friends were his greatest treasures.
Walter was known in the community as a great story teller
and was referred to affectionately by everyone as "Unc".
In his younger days, he left Country Harbour to sail on the Great Lakes
and he continured to do this for over 25 seasons.
In later years, he put to use his many talents as a "jack of all trades"
and started a second career as a contractor and carpenter.
He was an adherent of Cross Roads United Baptist Church
and a member of Stormont Lodge 96, AF & Am, Isaacs Harbour,
where he held many positions over the years and in 1996-1997 was the
district deputy grand master representing Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Jessie Hodgson;
daughter, Gaile Gammon, Antigonish; grandchildren,
April Weaver and Sandi Gammon; great-grand-daughter,
Grace Weaver, daughter, Darlene Sullivan, Antigonish;
grandchildren, Jennifer and James Sullivan; daughter,
Sheree (Mrs. Dennis Christie), Purlbrook, Antigonish Co.; grandchildren Angela Murphy,
Stacey and Crystal Christie; daughter, Alanna
(Mrs. Norman Hayne), Cross Roads Country Harbour; grandchildren,
Corey and Ttiffany Hayne; brothers, Lambert (Thelma), Ross (Donna), all or Toronto;
sisters, Ina Clarke, Antigonish; Minnie (Gordon) Feltmate,
Toronto; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son,
Claude (Todd); brothers, Harry, Stanley, Frank, Robert, Irving, Everett,
Maurice and George; sisters, Hilda Jarvis, Annie Veinott, Muriel Feltmate.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home,
Country Harbour. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cross Roads
United Baptist Church, Revs. Dennis Veinotte and Mark Kingsbury and
layman Lambert Worth officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery,
Cross Roads Country Harbour. Family flowers only.
Memorial donations may be made to Evergreen Cemetery, Country Harbour.
