Frederick A Carter, Canso, Oct 22 -

An outstanding citizen of Canso, Frederick A Carter
passed away Saturday evening at the age of 69 years.
Illness had confined him to his home since January last.
Mr Carter was a native of Canso and all his life
was intimately connected with the life of the town
and surrounding community. Directly on leaving school
he entered the employ of A N Whitman and Son, Limited
and quickly qualified for the various positions he held with the firm,
eventually becoming a shareholder, director and manager
of the dry goods department of their business.
His interests were not confined to the business with which
he was so intimately associated but every undertaking
having for its object the welfare of the community
had his hearty and active support. He served for many years as
a member of the Town Council, as deputy mayor and chairman
of the School Board. For two terms he was president of
the Canso Board of Trade and served in many positions of responsibility;
and enjoyed the confidence of the community to a marked degree.
He was a prominent member of the Oddfellows Order,
holding the chief office of the Canso Lodge.
He was intimately associated with the Baptist Church
and served as a member of the finance committee.
Mr Carter leaves to mourn their loss his wife,
formerly Miss Catherine McKenzie of Truro; and two daughters,
Mrs J Burton and Miss Gloria,
both of whom are employed by Wood Bros., Halifax.
A son in young manhood died some years ago.
A sister, Mrs W G Goodwin, resides in new Glasgow.
The funeral service will be conducted from the home on Tuesday afternoon
by Rev. F. G. Hinett of the Baptist Church.
