Well Known Lumber Dealer is Mourned

DENVER, Guysborough County --
Alexander Fisher Archibald passed away in the St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke, on Monday.

Mr. Archibald was born in Denver in 1879, a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Howard Archibald.
He spent a few years in Arizona and Newfoundland, where he engaged in lumbering and mining.

After his return from Arizona, he began lumbering at Denver and established one of the leading lumber businesses in eastern Nova Scotia, his sons going into business with him in 1945. In 1933 he was appointed chief forest ranger for the municipality of St. Mary.

He was a member of Glenelg Presbyterian Church and chairman of the board of managers, and was also a member of the church choir and of Marmion Lodge, No. 74, IOOF, in Sherbrooke.

Mr. Archibald is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Fenton;
five daughters,
Vera (Mrs. Stanley Taylor), West Lochaber;
Isabel (Mrs. Russell Porter), Smith Cove;
Hazel (Mrs. Stewart Gunn), Denver;
Muriel (Mrs. Alvin Taylor), Halifax; and
Ruth (Mrs. James MacKay), Dartmouth;
Seven sons
Joseph in Dartmouth,
Clarence, Frank, Robert, Eldon and Raymond in Denver, and;
Harold at home;
one sister, Mrs. Elwyn Archibald, Glenelg.
A son, John, predeceased him.

The remains are resting at his residence and the funeral, will be held from Kirk Memorial United Church, Glenelg, this afternoon at 2:30 with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.
