MULGRAVE, Nov 6
Full military honors were accorded the late George W Hattie
at largely attended funeral services held for the deceased
in his home town on Friday afternoon.

One of five brothers in the service,
a son of Mr and Mrs Howard Hattie,
George died of injuries received when a car in which he was riding
turned over on the Guysborough road Monday evening.
He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1943,
and served in Newfoundland, Dartmouth, and Patricia Bay, B.C.
Later he joined up for service in the Pacific, two weeks ago he received his discharge
and was preparing to return to his former position
as a brakeman with the C.N.R. when the unfortunate accident occurred.

On Friday afternoon funeral services were conducted
at the home of his parents by Rev. Edgar Cowan,
pastor of the United Church and the cortege led by a firing party
from the R.C.A.F., Dartmouth, with Sergeant T.L. Martell in charge,
navy, army, Canadian Legion led by A.D. Kennedy, president,
school children and citizens proceeded from the residence to the United Church cemetery,
where at the graveside three bolleys were fired from guns
in the hands of the firing party.
The bugler, Corporal W. Smart, R.C.A.F.
sounded the “Last Post” and then “Reveille”
and the commital prayers were read by Rev. Edgar Cowan.

Pall bearers were, Skipper G.B. Hadley, AB, James CacLean, navy,
Sergeant T. El McDonald, sapper Zavier Keating, Army,
LAC Bazil Hennessey, LAC Donald McIsaac, R.C.A.F.

A beautiful display of floral tributes, telegrams and cards of sympathy
were received at the family, silent tokens of the high esteem
in which the late airman was held.

Besides his father and mother, surviving are two sisters,
Miss Nellie Hattie, R.N., a supervisor at the Cornwall General hospital,
Cornwall, Ont., Mrs Einar Einarsen who left last week to return
to her home in Flin Flon, Manitoba,
seven brothers, Alfred, Town Clerk of Mulgrave;
Philip of Pickle Crow,Ont.;John of Flin Flon, Manitoba;
William, R.C.A.F., England,; Ray with the army in England,;
Charles who was a prisoner of war until his recent release
and James who recently returned from overseas.
