Mahar, Charles Frederick
- passed away in St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke,
on April 6, 2000, after a lengthy battle with heart problems and cancer.
Born in Sonora, Guysborough Co., on December13, 1929,
he was a son of the late Gordon and Katherine “Katie” (McGrath) Mahar.
He was employed for many years with J.P. Porter’s Dredging Company
as a welder and crane operator.
He had also been employed with the Harbour Development Company
and Antigonish Motors. He is survived by his wife,
the former Grace Burns; brothers, Leonard (Ruth),
Douglas (Hazel), Wayne (Phylis), all of Sonora;
sisters, Virginia (Vernon) Jack, Sonora; Edith MacDonald, New Castle, N.B.;
Shirley (Bill) Baker, Timberlea; Marguerite (Anthony) Mattie, Antigonish;
many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Matthew; sister, Helen;
infant brothers, Ralph and William. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today,
in Ecum Secum Funeral Home, Sherbrooke.
Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, in Wine Harbour Independent Baptist Church,
Rev. Dick Jones officiating. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Sonora.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital
or St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital Palliative Care, Sherbrooke.
Arrangements entrusted to Ecum Secum Funeral Homes Ltd.
Charlie will live in our hearts with fond memories forever.
