HARPELL, Rhoda Frances - 86,
Port Bickerton, Guysborough Co.,
died Monday, August 7, 2000,
in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke,
surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Port Bickerton, she was the eldest daughter of
the late Everette Garfield and Amanda Bessie (Kaiser) Horton.
She was a member of the Port Bickerton United Baptist Church.
During her long life, she was a volunteer for numerous organizations
and was a honorary life member of the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia.
She worked for 15 years as a mail courier for Canada Post.
Loved and respected by all who knew her,
she was a devoted mother and grandmother
and her wisdom and love will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by sons,
Stanley (Anne), Clayton (Mickey), Douglas (Lottie), all of Port Bickerton;
Jerry (Janice), Halifax; Asa (Sandra), Jordanville;
Charles (Elizabeth), Truro; Isaac (Sherry), Sonora; John (Margaret), Port Hilford;
daughters, Hilda (Clifford) Sherman, Halifax; Florence Baker, Liscomb;
Marjorie (Grant) Yake, Richmond, B.C.; Carol Whitmore, Bedford;
Wanetta (Roger) Evans, Portuguese Cove; Sandra (Leonard) Archibald, Dartmouth;
Barbara (David) Croft, Liscomb; Judy (Gordon) MacDonald, Port Hilford;
Cindy (Lloyd) MacGrath, Melrose; brothers, Weldon, Kenneth and Fred, all of Port Bickerton;
sisters, Jean (Maurice) Kaiser, Harpelville; Clare (Roy) Harpell, Port Bickerton; Leona Newcombe, Sherbrooke;
39 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Asa;
twin sons, Harold and Hector;
brother, Maurice; sister, Etta Lillian Horton;
grandchildren, David Harpell, Charlene Harpell, Jennifer Yake, Andrew and Marc Whitmore;
great grandchildren, Michaela Baker and Breanna Kaiser;
sons-in-law, Melvin Baker, Ian Sherman, John Whitmore.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today,
funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, both in Port Bickerton United Baptist Church,
Pastor Archie Leach officiating. Burial will be in family plot,
Harpelville. Memorial donations in Rhoda's memory
may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke,
the Port Bickerton United Baptist Church
or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour.
