Douglas Graham Sutherland

SUTHERLAND, Douglas Graham -- 57,
Denver, Guysborough Co.,
died Jan. 13, 1996, at home.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Alice (MacKeen) Sutherland and the late Edison Sutherland.
He had been a resident of Denver and Stewiacke most of his life.
He was a member of Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen.
After graduation from Nova Scotia Normal College, he attended the University of New Brunswick and then taught school at St. Mary's Rural High School.
He was employed with Canada Post as postmaster in Sherbrooke; a justice of the peace in Sherbrooke; member of Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association, and Canada Post Heritage Club.
When he resided in Stewiacke, he was postmaster for 19 years.
He served on the Stewiacke town council; Colchester East Hants Amalgamated School Board and Colchester Regional Hospital board,
and was very involved in coaching minor sports.
Surviving are his wife, the former Pauline Pilpott;
sons, Capt. Kent Sutherland, Oromocto, N.B.;
Cpl. Kyle Sutherland, Petawawa, Ont;
daughter, Kenda Sutherland, Halifax;
a granddaughter; brother, Vernon, Westphal;
sisters, Olive (Mrs. Eldon Archibald), Denver;
Wanda Sutherland, Dartmouth;
several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Tuesday in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Funeral was in Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen,
Rev. George Mickiethwaite officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia,
Kirk Memorial United Church or any charity.
