Obituary for ~

Doris Claire McMaster

RED BAR

McMaster, Doris Claire – 70, Halifax.
It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the sudden and unexpected death
of our dearly loved Doris on April 8, 2008.
Born January 14, 1938 in Antigonish,
Doris was the daughter of the late Orrin Clare and Henriette Theresa (Sullivan) McMaster.
Doris is survived by her husband, Charlie Hall, Halifax;
beloved brother, Jack (Marcia), Woodmans Point, N.B.;
nieces, Jayne (Brendan), Bermuda; Susan (T.L.), Halifax;
nephews, John (Carol), Westfield, N.B.; Peter (Christa), Saint John, N.B.
She is also survived by her grandnieces and nephews (her babies),
Aidan, Eva, Olivia, Mackenzie, Kate and Kyle.
Doris will be deeply missed by her cousins,
Marie MacMaster and Jean Fisher, Boylston, and special “sister-cousin”, Ginny (George) Doucet, Halifax,
and all of their families. Doris grew up in Boylston, Guysborough County,
until moving to Halifax in 1956, where she enrolled in the Victoria General School of Nursing.
After serving as a nurse in the Canadian military,
she went on to further her nursing career at the V.G.
where she eventually became Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1994.
Doris was extremely well-liked and respected within the nursing community
and had been very active over the years in the V.G. Alumni Association.
The class of 59A will miss her immensely, as will her many, many friends.
Doris had a strong faith and was an active member of the United Church of Canada
and the congregation of Fort Massey, Halifax.
Doris spent much of her life caring for other people, her mother, her patients,
her friends and family, and especially her husband, Charlie.
We take comfort in the fact that, at long last, Doris no longer has to carry the burden
of taking care of others. It is now her turn to be pampered.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday, April 10, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home,
2666 Windsor St., Halifax. A funeral service will be held
Friday, April 11 at 2 p.m. in Fort Massey United Church
(corner of Queen and Tobin streets), Halifax, Rev. Trent Cleveland-Thompson officiating.
Burial in Boylston United Church Cemetery at 2 pm Saturday, April 12.
Family flowers only.
Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia
or a charity of choice.
