Olive Irene BEARSE

1905-2007

Bearse, Olive Irene, 101, died Monday, June 4, 2007
at Milford Haven Home For Special Care, Guysborough.
Born in Kingston, Michigan on October 27, 1905,
she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Mary (Waller) VanHorn.
After the death of her father she moved with her family
to Cass City, Michigan where she was raised and educated.
She then attended business school in Detroit.
In 1923 she married her late husband Edward,
and the following year they moved to Guysborough,
where she lived until she entered Milford Haven Home For Special Care
in 1993. Olive enjoyed doing crafts,
knitting, crocheting, needle-point and, especially, playing bridge.
She was a member of the Wesley United Church
and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was also, at one time, President of the United Church Ladies Sewing Circle
and a life member of both the U.C.W. and the Mission Society.
Olive loved working with flowers and was well-known
for her beautiful gardens. She continued her keen interest
in gardening even after she moved into Milford Haven.
She was a member of both the Guysborough Garden Club and the Guysborough Historical Society.
She loved playing bridge and continued to do so until her 100th. birthday.
Olive was the last surviving member of her family;
she was predeceased by her sister, Myrtle VanHorn
and her brother, Neil VanHorn. She was also predeceased
by three half sisters, Ada, Violet and Ella and two half-brothers,
Roy VanHorn and William Smith.
Olive leaves to mourn her niece, Edna Fredsburg, Windsor, Ont;
two great nieces; nephews Edward Yorke and Gary Yorke,
both of Halifax; niece Gail Yorke, Halifax; nephew Elmer Bearse, Michigan.
At her request, cremation has taken place.
There will be no visitation and a graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery,
Guysborough on Wednesday, June 13 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Leonard Oracheski officiating.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Dennis Haverstoack Funeral Home, Guysborough.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Milford Haven Corporation –
Home For Special Care, Guysborough, N.S.
