Mrs. Edith LAING of Sherbrooke,
Wife of Missing Staff Sergeant, Dies

The village of Sherbrooke was shocked and saddened to hear
of the unexpected passing of Edith LAING,
wife of John L. Laing, at the early age of twenty-six years,
after an illness of only three days.
Mrs. Laing was about the village on Thursday
becoming ill on the following day,
she was taken to St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish, on Sunday
where she passed away shortly after admittance.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cooke,
she lived all her life in Sherbrooke
where she will be keenly missed by family and friends.
Staff Sgt. John L. Laing, served with the Canadian troops in Hong Kong
and has been reported missing since that time.
Surviving are five children ranging in age from 1 1/2 years
to 7 years: Lloyd, Lorna, Lillian, Lorraine and Jack Leonard,
also her parents, three sisters, Hazel(Mrs. Gordon Hines),
Dartmouth; Effie(Mrs. L. Wilson); Marion, Sherbrooke and four brothers,
Ralph, with the R.C.N., Simeon, Walter and Leo, Sherbrooke.
The heart broken family have the deepest sympathy
of the entire community in their great loss.
The funeral service was conducted by the pastor,
Rev. A. Pitcher of the Anglican pastorate.
The Eastern Chronicle also extends deepest sympathy to the grief stricken relatives.
