"She probably wants to get on you Bradley!" Brenda said.
"She probably hasn't even kissed a guy in her life!" Brad said.
"How do you know?" Brenda asked.
"Because, she seems too innocent and too...You know...Book wormish." Brad said.
"Well, I don't like the fact that my boyfriend is going over to the school nerds house after school tonight!" Brenda said.
"Hey, she isn't a nerd! She is very smart and knows where she is going in life! You can trust me! The furthest we'll even go is recite some Shakespeare stuff." Brad said.
"Now you're defending her? Oh, Whatever!" Brenda said and got out of his car.
"I'll get it mama!" Hope said as she ran down the stairs.
"Hi, sorry I'm late. I had to drop Brenda off from Cheerleading practice." Brad said as he walked into the house with a bunch of books in his hands.
"Here let me help you." Hope said as she took some books and closed the door.
"Thanks." Brad said.
"We're gonna be studying up in my room Mama!" Hope yelled.
"All right sweetheart have a fun time!" Her Mother yelled back.
"Oh yeah fun this will be." Brad said laughing. Hope laughed and opened her door.
"Nice room." Brad said.
"Thanks...You can set the books down there and sit on the bed." Hope said closing her sliding glass door that went to her deck.
"Really nice room! You can even see the ocean from here." Brad said checking out the view.
"Yeah, I love the sound of the waves at night." Hope said.
"So should we get started?" Hope asked.
"Yeah!" Brad said.
"Do you want to stop for the night or do you want to keep going?" Hope asked.
"We're done!" Brad said and laughed. Hope smiled and took off her reading glasses.
"Okay, you did really good tonight." Hope said. Brad got his stuff together and sat back down.
"You probably think I'm some sort of dummy!" Brad said.
"What? No not at all! You are very smart!" Hope said. Brad smiled and looked at Hope for a few moments.
"Why do you always cast yourself out?" Brad asked.
"What do you mean?" Hope asked as she got up and brushed her long light brown hair.
"You seem like a pretty cool girl...You're pretty and all. But, you seem to never go out to any of the dances, games, parties, and stuff." Brad asked.
"I didn't know people noticed that Miss Hope Winters avoided those things...They just don't appeal to me that's all. Girls saying they are best friends with other girls when all they do is back stab them and talk trash about them! And guys...Don't get me started on them! I just like to live in the real world. I don't want to be known as the school slut or the school pimp or whatever you call them!" Hope said.
"I know what you mean!" Brad said.
"Then why do you hang out with all those fake people?" Hope asked as she sat down.
"I don't know...I just want to be someone special I guess." Brad answered.
"Brad you are special! You just are looking in all the wrong places that's all." Hope said and laid against her wall. Brad got up and thought for a second.
"I'll talk to you tomorrow?" Brad asked.
"Are we going to do this again tomorrow?" Hope asked confused.
"No, I meant like I'll talk to you if I see you in the halls or something." Brad answered.
"Oh! Yeah!" Hope said with a smile.
"Okay then, see you later." Brad said.
"Wait, let me help you carry these books to your car." Hope said and took half of them. Hope walked him outside and he got in the car.
"Goodnight." Brad said.
"Goodnight Brad. Drive safely." Hope said and walked into her house.
"Who was the stud?" Hope's Mother asked.
"Oh Mama! That was only Brad!" Hope said walking up the stairs.
Hope walked out of her Home making class and Brenda dropped her books out of her hands.
"Oh no!" Hope said as she tried to pick them up. Brad looked at Brenda and then at Hope and ran to help her.
"Here let me help." Brad said and carried her books.
"Thank You." Hope said.
"Sorry about Brenda..." Brad said as Hope opened her locker and put in some books and then took other ones out.
"No, it's okay. She is upset that you are even speaking to me! It's bad enough we're alone after school." Hope said.
"No, it isn't you should stick up for yourself!" Brad said.
"It's really okay Brad." Hope said as she started to walk off.
"Wait a second!" Brad said. Hope turned around and looked at Brad.
"Aren't you putting your reputation at stake by talking to me?" Hope asked.
"Yeah, but I don't care. You're a friend." Brad said.
"Bradley, you gonna walk me to gym class?" Brenda asked yelling.
"I'll call you later okay?" Brad asked.
"Bye." Hope said and walked away.
"Oh my gosh, Was Brad just talking to that Hope girl?" A bunch of girls asked eachother in little whispers.
*Sound of a PE teachers Whistle*
"Okay girls! Gather around!" The PE teacher yelled. The girls all ran to the teacher and listened.
"Run two laps and we'll go to the soccer field." The girls all groaned but Hope just walked to the track and took care of it. After she was done she got a drink and waited for the rest to finish. Brenda and a bunch of her friends were leaning against the bleachers playing with their hair and gossiping.
"Brenda, what is Brad doing talking to that Hope girl?" A girl named Cindy asked.
"I have no clue! She's tutoring him so he doesn't get cut from Football. He's such a loser. He'd rather go over to her house then come over and help me watch my baby sister. I told him I'd help him with his English but he said he wants to really get a good grade." Brenda told all of her friends. The girls all gasped at Brenda's "tragic" story and then Hope rolled her eyes and laughed.
"And the worst thing is..." Brenda started to say.
"Oh hush here comes Brad." Brenda said and put on a smile.
"Hi Bradley." Brenda said. Hope blushed and then walked passed them.
"Hello Hope." Brad said as she walked by.
"Hi Brad." Hope said and ran to the soccer field.
