Prop Hub Spacer

William Wynne's Prop hub as shown on the left,  uses a safety shaft and hybrid studs of sufficient length to work with his front starter and alternator arrangement,  also shown in this photo.

Should one elect to not use the front starter and alternator,  the safety shaft and hybrid studs will be too long,  and require cutting to the new proper length.

I opted to install a rear mounted starter and alternator,  but rather than cut the safety shaft and hybrid studs to a new shorter length,  I decided to take advantage of the extra length and in essence extend the length of my prop hub by 9/16",  by the way of a spacer.

Shown in this photo is my spacer sandwiched between William's expertly crafted black anodized prop hub and the stock Corvair crank gear.

Where my polished aluminum spacer fits,  is where William intended his ring gear,  and the alternator pulley "puck" to be installed.

Here you can see that I machined the "face" of the spacer to emulate the face of the crank gear.

It's a tight fit into the receiving end of the prop hub.

Don't be overly alarmed by the metal shavings.  Trust me,  they've all been removed,  and all the oil paths have been rodded out.

And here you can see that I machined the back side of the spacer to press on to the crank gear.

The back side of the spacer matches the back side of the hub.
