Laura and I got up early today to feed the horses, load them and their gear into the trailer and meet some Icey friends at Border Field State Park to RIDE ON THE BEACH!!!(one hour South of Encinitas on I-5)It was pouring rain, even thundering and promising to be a miserable, rainy, (typical Icelandic) day...
Well, we arrived before the rest of the group and had a devil of a time getting our two horses into the surf. Those white foamy fingers just couldn't touch my dainty hooves...they were saying...Laura even took her socks off and tried wading to demonstrate that the water didn't eat feet, to no avail..My arms were aching from keeping the rein near the water taught to keep from inching further and further away with every step...
WELL, when the rest of the group showed up, (the cavalry galloped up) and within 5 minutes we swam across a 20' crossing, got wet up to our ears and laughed and overcame most of our fears... Fani and Styrmir were still wary of "moving, foamy, white water" but significantly braver when their Icey buddies crashed into the surf around them. There is nothing like galloping along crashing surf racing 5 other happy tolters...
Thank you Valur, Jenny, Thorri and Kidde for joining us and showing our boys how to have fun!!!
