Connie's Clutch Spring change

Hope this helps with any "wannabe-a-mechanic" types.

Step One

Remove plastic, rear brake assembly, etc.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the bike is in gear (the higher the better). You will need to hold the rear tire in order to keep the crank from spinning, and the darnthing is impossible to get out of neutral when the engine is cold and dead.

Step Two

Remove right side cover and clean gasket surface (not fun).

Step Three

Remove six clutch housing bolts and slip off clutch cover. Its a good idea to stuff a rag in the opening to prevent broken "fingers" from falling out of reach into the crankcase.

Step Four

With clutch cover off the Starspring is visible (note only two leaves were left on mine). Remove the BIG nut in the middle (may require tremendous amounts of torque).

Step Five

Be sure to replace with the two piece spring (the two on the right). Some dealers still have the one-piecers in stock and will try to sell them.
Good luck!
