Money -- the forbidden word
Fundraising -- scary stuff for most people and I'm no different.
Made scarier still because the San Diego event is the first one this year
April 12-14th and, although I've not been downsized, I have had my salary
frozen -- sigh. Just a little extra stress to training, working (4 books
due 2 weeks before the event), and, this just in -- jury duty , I'll also
need to do my taxes early.

I toyed with the idea of doing some knitted items and
selling them to raise funds. I wasn't thinking of caps and bookmarks
and such -- simply not enough time to do that in addition to other charity
knitting and obligations.
I had been more interested in doing the wire pointe shoes or
the
wonderful copper wire bra I recently designed. I think either of
those items would be super for a one-off auction -- in a pre 11 September
economy. In the post 11 September world, and pre-recovery period I'm not
so sure. A more involved version of the pointe shoe I ransomed back from
the DAE auction in 2000 for $125 was not even getting its minimum bid
amount in 2001. So perhaps the knitted concept is one for next year.
So what have I done?
- Memorised my number -- don't laugh, it helps
- Enlisted the aid of one of my alum groups
- Created mini-posters and posted them (with pledge forms) at work and at yarn shops
- Created a special email account for Avon 3 day email
- Added these pages to my personal web page
- Created flyers for inclusion with a friend's Avon booklet distribution
- Remembered to ask at least one person at every meeting or social gathering I attend
- Additional follow up with those who have agreed to donate.
And what have I planned?
- Contacting my local about doing a fundraising night
- Working with one of my many favoiurite checkers at the local grocery to get donations there (hey, they like me)
- Pulling in a couple of overdue favours
- Keeping my fingers crossed
