I Spit On Your Grave is one of the most infamous films of the rape/revenge genre. Released in 1977, the world was just not, and is still not, ready for the sheer brutality of this film. Camille Keaton's more than believable performance helped escalate this film to cult status and save it from the depths of obscurity. The actors who portray her four attackers also deliver outstanding performances and help make this film what it is: a classic. Some may be disturbed by this films content, and some may even be offended. But the film itself serves as a message to would be rapists: sometimes they fight back.

When it was first released, critics everywhere blasted the film for its content and its portrayal of rape victims. The film was yanked out of theatres because the thickheaded film critics Siskel and Ebert's now-infamous, sophomoric line: "It makes men want to rape women". The film never produced any big stars, in front or behind the camera, which in my opinion enhances the reality of it all. We have no idea who these actors and this actress are, to us, the viewers, theyre just ordinary people. Its low budget, independant quality helps propel its effectiveness. So do yourself a favor, pick up I Spit On Your Grave. You wont be disappointed.
