The Dream Scene

It's not art, its......

Did you ever have a dream about....?

I never made it....

It starts off with me in the office...but we're not in Kansas anymore (as dreams often go), and I find that my office has a view of a stage, where a concert is about to be held. There's a huge pool separating me and the stage, and the surroundings resembled a large ship or some kind of metal factory - large steel beams, corrugated steel flooring, thick steel plates riveted to the walls. So as the concert starts, I realize I want to meet the performers - whoever they were, and began to make my way out of my office by another door that would lead me safely to the stage without having to take a dip in the pool. Outside are hundreds of escalators - going up, going down, stretching over two or three floors; some have exposed undersides, allowing me to see how they really worked - not a pretty sight. I go up one, down a few, through a hallway, up a couple more, and finally find myself near the stage - only to discover the bands taking a break! So I'm trying to find my way back to the office, ad I suddenly end up at the top of a winding metal staircase - and I'm totally incoherent, babbling to myself, wide eyed with fear looking at the steps. There are no handrails, no main central support, and from what I could tell, nothing supporting the steps themselves. Now you see why I'm babbling? Anyway, out of nowhere, some guy comes bouncing up the steps two at a time and stops at the top and looks at me. I find my tongue, and tell him to please help me, I need to get back to my office, I can't make it down those stairs, and if I don't get back soon, I'll get in trouble. (For those of you that didn't see my 'What I Do' Page; I'm a telephone operator, and usually on duty alone, so trouble does ensue if no ones there to answer the calls - unfortunately, something I know from experience.) anyway, he goes "sure!" with a big smile and grabs my arm. I don't remember going down the stairs, only the last few at the bottom, where I look up and spot this girl standing there giving me the evil eye. So I quickly thank him and speed off for the next escalator. I find myself next on the roof of this weird place, and can see all the way out to the horizon. The sky's a mottled shade of reddish purple, there's a city below me and no moon out. I keep running, and finally spot the escalator that brings me back down to the level my office is on. But I'm in a corner, and to my left is a solid steel wall, in front of me is a wrought iron fence, about chest high, and beyond that were rows of small metal sheets, standing unpright and poking out of the ground about 6 inches. To me, this is a generator, and very dangerous. To the left of this contraption is solid safe ground, and my desperately desired escalator (who the hell dreams about escalators anyways??!). So I figure I have to hurdle the fence (apparently something I'd done often in this dream), and start a run up. I hurdle the fence and it all goes slow motion - I make it over, but as I land my arm hits the metal sheets, and I'm zapped by blue bolts of electricity. I woke up saying "Noooo!". Go figure.

Money!

here's a nice one....I was in a watching a movie at a cinema somewhere, and it was just about to end. As the lights come back on, I spot a Singapore 2 dollar note sticking out from in between the seams of a chair, so I pluck it out. A group of people are gathering around the entrance to the theater, but I'm on a money grabbing spree! I start searching all the seats, and at almost every one I find a ten, a five, a plastic bag with several notes and a candy bar wrapper (I left behind the wrapper, thank you); all sorts of cash. And no one's noticing me! So I keep searching and hit the jackpot - 3 students from a private school here (don't ask how I knew that) have left envelopes containing Singapore, American and Malaysian currency; almost 5000 dollars total in each envelope! So of course, I'm on cloud 9, shovelling all this cash into my bag, and I walk out unnoticed, making my way to the ladies to count my new found stash. A friend stops by and asks about my sudden habit for counting large sums of money in public bathrooms (eeewww!!), so I tell her what happened, then I buy her dinner just cause I could. She was happy, I was ecstatic, and then...the phone rang. *sigh* I would have like to have known what else I was going to do with that cash. But I suppose I do know...shopping splurge, buy all that funky new expensive furniture I saw at park Mall (I'm moving house soon; furniture malls have integrated themselves into my life recently), learn to drive(!!!),etc. Oh, well.

The Phantom Subway

Hey! I'm back with a new dream! This ones about trains and escalators (again???). So, our intrepid traveler (thass me) find herself riding down an escalator into a huge room with two large subway tunnels at either end. There are escalators at the corners of the room. Now, this looks like a regular setup, except that there are no traintracks to connect the tunnels directly opposite each other, and there are also no barriers to prevent the unheralded squashing of innocent escalator-riders. So I cautiously step of the escalator with my boyfriend, consistently nagging about how dangerous this is. As we are about to cross the 'hot-zone', a train rushes out from one of the tunnels, so we hurriedly pull back. As it passes, we cross in a mighty rush, and just as we make it to the safety of the next upward moving escalator another train breezes by in the opposite direction. Still nagging, we make it to the platform and wait for yet another train. As it approaches, we realize there are no available seats on the carriages in front of us. Now, this really shouldn't be a problem....except that the carriages don't connect internally, and we find that we have to make it over to the back carriages by a system escalators (about 6 in all) going up, down, and quite possibly...sideways(!!). Well, wouldn't you know it? By the time we reach there....the train is gone. So thank God I woke up.
