Erlene Reibly

Howdy Patches,

I am sorry that many of you are hearing this news this way. Erlene Reibly died peacefully last night about 9:30 after kicking cancer's ass for a number of years. She had Bruce and the rest of her family all around her, and they had each other. Everyone who ever met her was a good friend to her. You could tell because every time she saw you, you got a hug and a kiss from her.

All right, I have the word on Erlene's Memorial. the Irving memorial will be held on Tuesday, 19 July, A-Shift at 10:00. It will be hosted by the Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, TX 75063, (972) 560-4600. The Reibly family has requested that any donations, gifts, or remembrances be made to the Parkland Foundation Burn Camp under the name of "Erlene Reibly, Wind & Fire MC".

Erlene is of course too popular to have all of the friends she made in just one city. There will also be another memorial for her in Nocona at 5:00 that afternoon. If we want to go to that one too, we can follow the Reibly family.

Bruce says that he is certain that Erlene would love for us to all be there in our Colors. Out of respect for the family, I would like to ask that everyone be there in our "Fancy Colors", which for Chapter #58 is our normal Cuts over a white dress shirt and dark black jeans.

See y'all out there,

Rebel Burkhalter

Accident returning from Sturgis

Happy to report...

Went to visit Bob today. I wasn't going to go in just going to drop off a card with well wishes. I didn't know what to expect after talking with his son yesterday, I was expecting the worst.

Took a peek into his room to see if he was asleep and just drop off the card. Pleasantly relieved to see he is on the mend. He does have a few staples on top of his mug, a few scabs on his face and elbows. A couple of broken ribs to keep him from a hardy laugh. He is off the meds and in very good spirits.

From thinking the worst to a happy yahoo. Keep the positive thoughts it works...Glad to see your on the mend Bob.

Hopefully he will be home soon

Phil Chapter President

Barbary Coast Chapter

Talked with Bob's son John today. As you are probably aware Bob was involved in an accident outside Arcadia, California on his way back from Sturgis. Bob was released from the hospital in Arcadia and was driven home by his wife Marilyn to Cotati on Wednesday. He was readmitted into Memorial Hospital on Friday for further observation and tests on Friday. He will remain there for several days.

John said he was coherrent but does not remember anything regarding his accident. On Bob's request he wishes not to receive any phone calls or visitors until his release from the hospital.

Bob's injuries include lacerations to his face and large cut at top of the head. Unknown if there is any swelling or continued bleeding. He does have several broken ribs.

No actual reports of cause of accident. Still waiting on reports from CHP. The bike was seen by his son and we discussed possible theories but don't want to speculate and cause any untruths.

Please keep Bob in your prayers for a speedy recovery...

Chuck Mitman

Alaskan Firefighters Chapter

Hey JR; Thought I would send a couple of pics to show you my Bike after hitting a BROWN BEAR at hwy. speed. Somehow I kept the bike upright. A sore wrist is all I got from the crash. I think my fallen Brothers were watching over me as you can see all the bear hair wedged under the name of a 9/11 fallen firefighter. (the 9/11 bracelets for world trade ctr. fallen firefighters.) I had one mounted on each fork shroud...I looked in my left mirror as i regain control and could see the bear spinning in a circle like a turtle on his back and sliding down the hwy. When I came to a stop I did not see him anymore, so I rode the bike another 1/2 mile or so as my front tire was smoking away from rubbing on the fender, and then stopped. As I did not want to be eaten. I was 20 miles from town with no cell service. I had my fire radio and called dispatch to call my wife and have her pick me up. The whole dept. it seemed started rolling, ambulance too. As the vehicles got within radio reception I was able to tell them to stand down. Its great to know someone has your back. I'm telling you about this as I know you only hear about the BAD that happens sometimes when riding motorcycles. Especially lately in Dallas etc. Sometimes we do get lucky...Yours Chuck (chopper chuck) Mitman #2671..

Walt Salazar

7/10/2010

For those who came to visit Walt Salazar in the ICU at Swedish--he can't remember any of it!

Now self managing in his whiz-bang chair and easily talking, he welcomes all of us. Managing the phone is still a pain, so visits are great.

Walt would also love photos of Trish, Trish & him, and him with W&F especially any of the kid charities. He has a photo wall he shares with staff and patients.

The 18th Annual Motorsports and wheelchair drag races day at Bandimere is Thu Aug 26 3-9p with W/C races at 7p. Walt has been selected as the one recipient this year for a $50,000 wheelchair from the Winn Family--he'd like to use the opportunity to promote Burn Camp. He's requesting that we attend with him.

Walt is at Craig Hospital just east of Swedish Hospital in Englewood. Room 301 on 3 West.

Come on down.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To all members,

This is a brief synopsis on Walt and Trish Salazar.

Just got off the the phone with Walts daughter Angela. His family is there by his side. She said that Walt is still in ICU in serious condition. Walt has injuries to C4-C5, broken ribs and probable partial paralization.  They have done surgery to stablize the spine. He is being kept sedated to reduce swelling on his brain.  He has been on a ventilator since he arrived due to heavy sedation. Angela told me that he was taken off the ventilator earlier this evening and he managed to breathe for awhile on his own. He was then put back on the ventilator for the evening. They will take him off the ventilator in the morning to see if any progress. He has paralysis from the waist down at this time. He can move his arm a bit. Angela says Walt acknowledged her very briefly with his eyes when she spoke to him today.  Pray for him.

Here are some details of the crash:

Walt and Trish were on their way back to Denver after attending the Republic of Texas rally with some of our Texas brothers. The accident happened on Hwy 71 near San Saba, 125 miles NW of Austin in a very remote area between 9:00-10:00 in the evening. The cause of the accident was due to a rear tire blowout.  There was a first responder on scene within minutes of the crash who administered aid.  Walt was pulling his famous fire engine trailer and had his wife Trish on the back. Preliminary reports say that Walt and Trish were wearing their helmets.  Trish Salazar did not survive the crash. It is believed that Trish is at the funeral home in San Saba, and family is on location.

Dallas chapter member Gary Lovel and his wife Mindy have been in Austin since early this morning keeping us informed of Walt's condition. James and Gary Bates have also been at the hospital. Gary is a Houston FF.

There has been tremendous support from Tom Kelly (the first responder) who was on scene and Bob Nix of the Austin FF Association and the local firefighters of Austin Texas.

Eric or I will continue to send out updates as we get them.

Keep Walt and his family in your prayers.                Keep Trish's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Tell those close to you that you love them.

Each and every day is truly a blessing.

Friday April 30, 2010

FINAL HONORS: Mike Gambill, Bakersfield CA

It is with great sorrow that we share the loss of Brother Mike "Gamster" Gambill.  TSgt Mike Gambill, USAF "Fire Dawg" was seriously injured last July when he was stuck on his bike by a woman blowing through an intersection in Bakersfield CA.  Mike's  family was preparing for transit from Colorado Springs to an Okinawa USAF fire assignment when the incident occurred.

Mike made a terrific comeback.  He was fitted for a prosthetic leg and recently purchased a fire red H-D trike he was going to make all four Wind & Fire MC rallies with in 2010.

He had some revision surgery on his leg, was progressing well with PT, then...

What happened? He went to take a shower, collapsed, and that was it.  We dunno.

I could go on about Mike, his wife Michele and their great daughters, Hannah, Melissa and Elizabeth.  What a family, and, what service to God, Family, Country, and fellow firefighters they demonstrate.  Google the TSgt and you'll come up with an inspirational tale of one man's journey back to family, the fire service, and the Air Force.

Many of you know Mike and Michele from the IAFF Memorial rides where they ran registration at Briargate.  A number of you know Mike from riding.  Mike was some of the last vestige of the Pikes Peak Chapter Wind & Fire MC--the whole darn chapter from military-town CSpgs got deployed one time or another after 9/11.  WFMC Kern Firefighter Chapter adopted Mike after his mishap.

So, what I'm getting to is:

Final Honors for a firefighters' firefighter, Mike Gambill, are Friday April 30 in Bakersfield CA.  A number of us are saddling up (OK some are flying) to make our way out to the San Joaquin Valley, perhaps we'll see you there.  Services are 10 a.m. at the Bridge Bible Church.  http://thebridgebiblechurch.com/

It's a shocker for all of us.  What a great reminder to live every day like it's your last and settle up differences with a little gift wrapper looking a lot like love.  Mike's a Firefighter who made your and my badge shine a bit more brightly the way he lived his life.  I'm glad to have known him.

Be well out there--ride safe.

Shinji Fujimura

Honorary Member #H-013 Shinji Fujimura passes away:

Sangou-cho Ikoma-gun Nara

Japan

At age 8 a swimming accident confined Mr. Fujimura to a wheelchair but rather than regress he tackled life with the goal to set an example for people with disabilities. His efforts defied the view held by Japanese society that having a disability will confine someone to the indoors. Shinji’s activities include camping, kayaking down the Yukon River and chair skiing.

In 2003 Shinji’s first effort at motorcycling – he practiced for a week – was a USA cross-country route from San Francisco to Ground Zero. His ride was a custom built Harley-Davidson trike that could tote his wheelchair. En route through Montana he was noticed by a group of Wind & Fire Belgian members headed for the club’s National Rally in Milwaukee. From this chance meeting as a guest Shinji participated in the W&F MC event.

In 2004 Shinji was made an Honorary Member. An obvious appreciation was shown by his flight, with friend Eiho Otani, from Japan to Santa Barbara for the presentation.

Dear Jerry,
The time passes very fast! It was 5 years ago when I visited your place with Shinji.
It brought good memories to remember the time spend with you and your friends.
From 17 August we are going to the Yukon River in Canada for a canoeing trip. So today I must report to you a very sad story. Last summer Mr. Shinji FUJIMURA passed away suddenly. He desired ardently to go to the Yukon. That was to be his second trip to Yukon River where he was to be the leader of the handicap canoeing group. He worked very hard to make this dream come true. But he was carried to the hospital before leaving Japan and after 1 week he died. Everybody loved him very much and we have been filled with sadness for a very long time.
I'm sorry that I am so late informing you about Shinji. Please say hello to all your friends and thank you very much for your kindness and friendship. Good luck in your life and riding.
            With my best regards,
                        Eiho OTANI

Crashes

Richard Jolly, Jerry Rushing, Rick Timmons, Jim Pharr, Scott Parsley and Mike Multop all rode to the funeral for “Lil Buck” at Scruggs funeral home on Military. While riding east on Military just before Jim Miller Rd, a pickup truck stopped right in front of us and Richard had to lay his bike down to keep from hitting the truck. Richard is okay but his bike took quite a beating with bent handle bars and broken lights, mirrors, turn signals and scrapes and scratches. He was able to get things bent back enough that he could ride to the funeral home and back home again but, we need to be especially careful out there and always expect the unexpected. This guy just stopped cold in front of him and Richard had nowhere to go.

Hi JR!  Deano was medivaced to the Phoenix Heart Hospital.  They put a couple more stints in him.  He will be heading home to Payson soon with friends from CA.

Take care,  [Nick]

Update:

I just talked to Dean about 30 minutes ago. He sounded so normal I had to push him to admit he had a heart attack. I caught him on his cell phone at the pool in Palm Springs. He was driven there by some friends. He sounded great! Someone handed a glass of wine while we were talking.

What brought on the HT was his working in his yard in Payson doing landscaping. A friend offered him free use of a backhoe. Dean was grading and hauling rocks...and as usual doing it nonstop. The end result was three days in the hospital. [Jerry]

Terry “Skipper” Porter

Update #14

October 31, 2007

Hi to everyone,

For all of you that have been following my mis-adventures, Thank you for your concern and thoughtfulness.

I was released from the Physical Rehab hospital yesterday and got home to Big Bear at 1600 hrs.  Oh, was it nice to be home.

I have regained a lot of strength.  I can walk without aids and am pretty mobile (though I haven't started jumping or running - probably never will).  I still need to rebuild a lot more strength.  I will be going to a sports rehab center here in Big Bear for 3 times a week for four weeks or more.

I look forward to getting back to normal.  My back surgery so far has been a success.  I am pain free and it is healing nicely.

The City of Long Beach workers comp section and my case nurse have been wonderful at providing the things I need to get better.  They seemed genuinely concerned and worked with Laurie to insure I got the best treatment available.

Laurie, as you all know, has been super wonderful during this whole situation.  She is a real fighter and someone any of you would want on your side.  I'm glad she was on mine.  To all you who offered her support and encouragement - Thank You - it was much needed and gratefully received though she might not know how to express it.  She was particularly happy that you all chose to watch for e-mails for updates and didn't call so she had to explain what was going on to each of you one by one.

It will probably be a few more days maybe weeks before I will feel comfortable sitting at the computer, but for now I won't be able to get to everyone's e-mails right away.  I will go through them all and answer as many as possible.

With God's help, I'll be skiing by the end of December and right back on my Harley this spring.

Again, THANK YOU all for your concern, support and prayers.  I believe I'm here because you all believed.

Terry (the Bounce Back Kid!)

Update #13

October 25, 2007

Terry is doing very well in rehab. They held a progress meeting today and the only thing keeping him from coming home is that worker's comp hasn't installed grab rails in our shower yet. They are scheduled to be installed on Oct 31. He is making progress every day and the PTs are pushing him to do better. They are pushing him harder than he would let me or push himself. He is scheduled to come home on Oct 31st.

Update #11

October 19, 2007

Terry is awake and oriented. He started coming around last night. It was like someone had switched him on and his brain wokeup. He will probably be transferred to Ballard Acute Rehab ( http://www.ballardrehab.com/ ) on Monday. If you want to see him, try to go by this weekend. You can call his room 951-486-6302.

Update #10

October 15, 2007

Terry is still improving but not fast enough for me. He's still disoriented, however getting a little better. He got up and walked today with the help of two therapists and a walker. He's been cleared on his swallowing eval and now is getting clear liquids. His vocalization is getting better and easier to understand. Unfortunately he is having PVCs with his heart and they don't know why but the doctors keep saying "don't worry, everyone has them". I thought that when he got out of ICU that it would be easier but it is actually harder on me. I thought that I could get a little rest but it doesn't look like it until Terry gets more oriented with things. If anyone would like to visit him, please do. He could use the company. He gets upset when I leave and wants to come with me and doesn't understand why he can't leave the hospital.  Remember that visiting hours are 12pm-8pm. Room A4068.

Update #9

October 13, 2007

“SOME MORE GOOD NEWS”

Now that Terry is moving slowly forward, I have finally moved back home. I was living at my mother's house in Moreno Valley only 8 miles from the hospital. I will still continue to visit him every day. Terry is in GOOD and stable condition. He is in room A4068 at Riverside County Regional Medical Center. Please DO NOT call him directly. He is still VERY disoriented. If you want to check on him call the nurses station. Hopefully he will get out of there in about a week. If you want to visit, please realize that he may not recognize you. Visiting hours are 12pm-8pm.

Update #8

October 11, 2007

“SOME VERY GOOD NEWS”

Terry is being transfered out of the ICU today!!! He is going to 4A at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley. It is on the corner of Nason and Cactus. Visiting hours are 9am to 8pm. I don't know how long he'll be there. He will be going to Ballard Acute Rehab in San Bernardino when discharged. He is still pretty out of it but coming along. Still having problems talking coz of the intubation.

Give him a couple of days and he'll be ready for visitors.

Update #7

October 9, 2007

Terry has made a huge leap forward. Yesterday the pulmonary doctor wanted to see if he could be weaned from the ventilator. Dr Fargo said that his ARDS has resolved itself and that the pneumonia is just about gone. Terry passed the weaning trials and was removed from the ventilator yesterday afternoon. He is breathing on his own with the help of a small mask. He should be coherent sometime tomorrow. I will let you know when he is ready for visitors. I was with him this morning and he still doesn't recognize me. He's pretty out of it. Stay tuned for a Thursday email.

Three people were injured, one critically, in a multiple motorcycle crash
Sunday afternoon northbound Interstate 5 about two miles north of Brooks.
Additional information is being released including names.  All northbound
lanes are open.

On October 7, 2007 at approximately 1:35 p.m. a large group of motorcyclists
were northbound on Interstate 5 as part of an organized ride to a reported
funeral in the Portland area.  The organized ride started in the Medford
area and during it other motorcycles were joining in.

Near milepost 265 northbound, PATRICK H. LUCAS, age 37, from Molalla, was on
the northbound shoulder waiting to join the ride.  According to witnesses,
the group slowed down to allow LUCAS to fall in the back but he instead
attempted to merge into the middle of the group.  LUCAS' motorcycle collided
with another motorcycle operated by JERRY W. WORTHINGTON, age 69, from Butte
Falls, Montana.  They both went down onto the highway. A third motorcycle
operated by JOHN H. JENSEN, age 60, from Wilderville, Oregon collided with
the first two motorcycles.  A fourth motorcycle operated by PATRICK A.
TREECE, age 56, from Coos Bay, ran over the wreckage but was not injured.

LUCAS and JENSEN were transported by ground ambulance to Salem Hospital.
LUCAS reportedly has non-life threatening injuries.  JENSEN may have serious
injuries.

WORTHINGTON was critically injured and transported by LifeFlight to Oregon
Health Sciences University.

All motorcyclists were wearing protective helmets.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are
continuing the investigation.  All lanes were closed about 15 minutes to
allow for LifeFlight to land.  The inside lane has been open but the center
and right lanes were closed until being reopened about 6:15 p.m.

Photographs of some of the involved motorcycles are provided with this news
release.  Source: Oregon State Police.

Update #6

October 7, 2007

Hi all, I wanted to give you a weekly update.

It appears as though the sepsis is starting to resolve. He has not had a fever since Sep 30. His ARDS is holding steady with only marginal improvement. I want to thank all of you who have sent cards, it helps keep my spirits up. He has not had the tracheotomy yet, the doctor wanted the ENT specialist to do it and they won't do it until he's off the pressors. I'll keep you updated.

Update #5

October 2, 2007

Trying to keep everyone updated.

Terry is still sedated and intubated. He is scheduled for a tracheotomy tomorrow. His ARDS is holding steady. However he now has sepsis and they've identified MRSA. He is on antibiotics. They don't know how long this will take. He is still critical. The doctors are still optimistic.

Update #4

September 30, 2007

I spoke to Laurie today regarding Skipper's condition.

Laurie said that Skipper is making very small improvements.   Each day
things are just a little better than the day before.   Skipper is still in
very, very serious condition.  He is facing several major challenges and has
a huge battle ahead.

Laurie is staying with her mother and is spending every minute possible with
Skipper.

She did say the Long Beach FD has accepted this whole thing as worker's comp
and is providing her with support not grief.  This is a good thing.

Keep Laurie and Terry in your thoughts and prayers.

Hi everyone,

IF I haven't already told you, I am going in for surgery on my lower back tomorrow Sept. 14.  The doctor is going to straighten my spine, relieve pressure on the nerves and clean up my lower back.  He'll fuse from T-11 to S-1.  Hopefully I will be better and have a large amount of pain relief.  At least it will stop the back from getting worse.  The doctor is a spine specialist and works out of a Spine Center.

Surgery will be at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley.  I'll be there at least 5 days and then head home to Big Bear to mend.  Physical Therapy will start in four weeks and then I just work on getting better.

Took my last motorcycle ride down to Long Beach on Sept. 11 to do the Ride to Remember and have put the bike away for the season.

I'll be off the web until I can sit at the computer again and do my thing, so try not to miss my stuff to much.  If you ever tire of getting stuff from me, just let me know and I'll keep it to personal private stuff only.

Anyway, sorry for duplicates, but I did want to inform everyone and some of you are on a few of my lists.

Thanks for all you thoughts and prayers and keep Laurie in your thoughts, too.

Always, Terry

"Member Dies from Heart Attack"

 Dear Wind & Fire Family,

On behalf of our family, I just want to say "THANK YOU" for giving Richard the most awesome funeral.  This has been a very big loss for our family but all of you made it so beautiful that I felt comfortable leaving Richard because I felt he was present with us and I know he was pleased with how everything went.  I don't have an email for the Patriotic Guard Riders but they were great, the compliments just keep coming in.  I know we didn't ride for long but those are my most precious memories because I feel that brought Richard and I closer together.  Losing him as unexpected as we did proves that you can't wait til tomorrow for anything, especially telling family and friends that you love them.  I left him for 10 minutes and my life was turned upside down.

I wish you the best for Saturday's ride, we were really looking forward to it, I'll be thinking of you and I know he'll be with you.

Again, with our sincere thanks-----THANK YOU!!!

Mike Garland member #1305, Central Pa. Chapter #110

Mike was in another motorcycle accident this week.  On Tuesday, 22 May 07,  morning he had an encounter with a deer in
New Bridgeville, Pa.

He is pretty banged up, he has 6 broken ribs, his left arm (the bad arm) is broken in two places, he has road rash on his face
and he has a lacerated spleen.  Other than that he is doing great.  They haven't done anything with his arm yet, he is still waiting to see if they
are going to do surgery or not for the breaks.

He is at York Hospital, his room now is 320.

Directors Note: Mike was struck by a drunk driver several years ago. In that accident he lost his left lower leg and most of the use of his left arm. Mike recovered and bought a HD trike so he and his wife Becky could keep riding. I will forward more info as I receive it.

Stan understandably ,can't remember much about that Saturday night .

He still has many days with the Doc coming up , But I'm happy to see him getting out of the hosp. in a few days and heading home. We will miss him on the runs, and his great help he gave the club. But he will be back in the future .

"Mild Heart Attack"

Howdy

I was going to wait until I had more definite news to pass around, but Bruce kept getting his schedule at the hospital pushed back, and back, and back again. So enough waiting, this is what I've heard...

Bruce was Care-Flighted from Nocona to Baylor Irving yesterday with heart problems of some sort. Erlene initially told me that a heart attack was not suspected, just that it probably had more to do with his bypass surgery from several years ago.

Today Sean Sturdy told me that he had suffered a "mild heart attack." When I talked with her this afternoon, I took it as a good sign that the main issue of the day was that Bruce was complaining that he was hungry because they kept pushing his angioplasty procedure. He had finally just gone in when I talked with Sean earlier. I'm planning on heading up there tonight, I'll let you know if I learn anything else.

Josh and the guys at Station 5-C  had a great idea. Instead of a bunch of silly flowers, Josh sent Bruce a gift card from BassPro Shop as a 'Get Well Wish' from the W&FMC Irving Firefighters Chapter #58. I thought that was a brilliant idea. Brilliant!

The latest update on Ken condition.  Please take a minute to say a prayer for Ken and his family.........

JR- International President
Wind & Fire MC

1-21-2007

First of all, only 2 of the 3 doctors showed up and started talking negatively in front of Kenneth about his plight.  The third doctor came in and made them exit to a conference room.  One of our friends was visiting and he noticed Kenneth's eyebrows raising up and down as those two painted a terminal picture.  When all left, Kenneth opened his eyes and looked right at our friend.  Mike told him that he could beat this if he just tried harder.  Then the two did some Masonic hand signals until the family came back.  Kenneth's wife's exact words are "they don't know shit."  This was two weeks ago and since that time Kenneth has been very alert, everyone is able to read his lips, he has asked his wife to bath him and requested the bed pan.  As of yesterday, they think he has developed pneumonia again.  He has not had any fever and his vitals are good.  They are replacing the trach this week and hopefully will transfer him to Baylor for rehab.  He is truly God's miracle, but not out of the woods by any means.  Keep your prayers coming.

Darrell was given two choices about his new rehab.  They could put him to sleep and jerk his shoulder out and hope that it would go back into place or he could have rehab on the shoulder.  He elected to do the rehab and his spirits are getting better everyday.

Thank you for your prayers, the cards to Sandy, the calls, and the visits.  She turned 50 last Tuesday and we made sure she had a party.  It was very emotional for her and her children, but it gave her a boast.

God Bless you all and keep those prayers coming.  I am sorry that I haven't updated everyone, but it's been a day to day situation.

Pete/Jan

1-9-2007

Kenneth is better.  His improvement is in the form of they have him setting up again--they are cutting down on the morphine so he is more conscious.  He does open his eyes, but does not speak or attempt to speak at this time.  His vitals are good again.

The family has a "family conference" with the doctor that has been over his case since the accident on October 6.  It is tomorrow at 10:00am and I will let you know what they say about him.

I can already tell you that he still needs your prayers and so does his family.  His son Kenny got his truck stolen Friday nght from work and we figure its long gone.  Sandy needs your prayers as well.  We were up at the hospital with her yesterday and could see she is worn out.  She drives home almost every night to rest in her own bed and is up and back to the hospital early the next morning.  She and Marty have had some health problems that are related to stress and just flat being worn out from all of this.

We want to thank you again for the prayers and ask that you continue them. Also, please call if you can't visit so that Sandy will know that you are still praying for Kenneth and thinking of them.  It's easy to put something that has taken this long on the back burner when it has been 3 months going, but the tragedy is still in play.

Have a glorious day and God bless you all.

Pete/Jan

12-25-2006

I talked to Sandy on Christmas Eve as she was driving home from the hospital.  Kenneth had opened his eyes again, received a pint of blood, and his oxygen level was 40--which is a whole lot better than it has been.

I spent Friday at the hospital with she and Kenneth and am encouraged with her report, because he wasn't having such a good day on Friday.  We still need prayer for God to guide the doctor's in the right direction and for Kenneth's body to heal.  I know you are all praying for him and his family.  This is such a sad time and way to spend Christmas as they watch their loved one fight for his life every minute of everyday.

Jan left a message for Bo and Linda on their cell phone.  Please pray for them to get through the days ahead as they deal with the death of their young son.

Probably many of you have things going on in your own lives that you don't chose to share.  Please know that we pray for all everynight and wish you God's blessings everyday.  I hope that you and your families had a blessed Christmas.  We had the joy of our one and only 8 month year old granddaughter to brighten our day.  Also, we have made ourselves remember the reason for the season and that brings both tears and joy to our hearts.

Bless you all

Pete/Jan

12-14-2006

Our friend Kenneth suffered respitory arrest at 3:00am this morning.  He was rushed back to Parkland ICU where they have stabilized him.  Your prayers are so helpful.

12-05-2006

Sandy called last night to say that they want to transfer Kenneth to a hospital with intense treatment for his lungs and injuries as whole.  He is doing better, but her list confused her.  Please pray that her decision will be God lead.

Darrell did not get released, as we all hoped, last Friday.  He will be in intense rehab at least another 2 weeks.

They all need your continuing prayers.  Both girls had a persona sit-back this past week when their bodies got really sick and created some real problems for them.

Thank you again for your prayers and I will let you know when they transfer Kenneth, updates on both, and God be with you all.

Pete/Jan

11-24-2006

Just talked to Sandy, 7:15am, and Kenneth has developed a very high fever again and his oxygen level is dropping.  Of course she is waiting to catch a doctor and find out what is going on.  They did not do the ct scan like they said to check out the lungs Wed or Thursday.  They never have a solid reason for not doing what they say needs to be done.

I continue to ask for prayer for Kenneth and his family.  I know you are praying, but Kenneth is still fighting for his life.

God Bless your Day

 11-24-2006

Pete/Jan

I just talked to Sandy, Kenneth's wife, and the doctors finally did a cat scan on his lungs and found that the right lung they thought had crystalized hasn't but is still working.  It is very sick (Sandy's words).

The tissue that was coming out of the tube in his lung was from the hole they poked in to drain his lung.  He will be taken into surgery today (maybe) to put a tube in the other lung.

I truly believe that prayer has brought Kenneth this far and will deliver him safely from this.  I called everyone I knew who could start a prayer chain yesterday and asked them to keep them going.  Please do so as well.

Some of you have called about what you can do for Sandy and his family.  A benefit will be forthcoming, but right now let's just concentrate on his recovery.  I can assure you that Sandy and Kenny are being taken care of by many sources, including the Corsicana Firefighters Association.

Darrell still needs our prayers as well as he continues to try to regain some of his loss from the brain injury he incurred in the wreck.

Thank you all for caring about our kids--yes, Pete and I consider these boys our kids.  By the way, today is Kenneth's birthday and he just turned 51.

God Bless you all----------

Pete and Jan

11-11-2006

Kenneth looks much better, they put a Trach in and his temperature is staying down below 100 degrees, pretty much.  He is still in the percussion bed and in the induced coma, but he looks much better than he did a week ago.  We are still praying daily for him, hoping he recovers soon....

Ride safely brethren,

Yesterday was a good day for Firefighter Darrell, but Kenneth has inherited more problems.

Darrell has the breathing tube out of his mouth and they actually got him to sit up in a chair.  He maybe transfered to a room as early as today.

Kenneth spent his day in a cooling blanket to get his 104 fever down, developed still another infection, and had to have new leads put into his body.  He has not made much progress.

Their wives are literally worn out, but keep a smile on their face and faith in GOD for healing for their husbands.  It was tough to sit there listening to less than hopeful news about Kenneth's condition.  It seems that not one of the doctors can explain these infections and all the antiobiotics they are giving him are not getting to the most serious parts of his body.

I am asking you to continue your prayers as many times a day as you can speaking only positive"that you know he will be healed " but that doctors use their knowledge wisely to figure out the right combination of drugs to get him well on the road to recovery.  Kenneth needs this.

God Bless you all and for those of you who don't know, we raised $18,000 last Saturday's benefit for the fireman dying of cancer.  Not bad for a small chapter--

Special thanks to Mike Watts for his numerous donations that kicked off this event.  The food was good, the crowd was supportive, and God Bless you all for your prayers and participation.

Darrell Stephens #2558

Member of the Los Bomberos Chapter#146

Injured while on a run into Oklahoma 10-06-2006

1-8-2007

Darrell went back to see the orthopedic specialist on Friday.  The MRI they took revealed that his shoulder was literally froze from the severe injury and not using it when he was in ICU.  He couldn't use it because his collar bone was broken, as well as his neck and his scaplia.  So they gave him a choice of being put to sleep and letting them "jerk it"back in place or try physical therapy on it.  Guess what Darrell decided?

11-29-2006

Darrell passed another skill test today in his rehab.  He has to work on his driving skills and hopes that the conference with the doctors on Friday will be his ticket home.  He will still be under the care of a doctor, without a release, for another 30 days.  I've been in touch with both girls several times a day, but fell behind on my e-mails.

Today, Kenneth is awake and making progress again in baby steps.

Pete

11-11-2006

I was at the hospital tonight, Darrell is much better than when I saw him last Thurs.  He is moving from the Lipshy rehab, to a Grapevine apt. that the other Rehab owns, and he will travel to therapy in north Dallas, daily for 6 hours of rehab, for approximately 2 weeks.  But, he is so determined, I think he will be out sooner!

Ride safely brethren,

"Member in Accident"

Central - Sierra Chapter #17

Central Sierra Chapter member Craig Azevedo  was hit broad side this past weekend.  I talked to Craig today at Dr's Hospital in Modesto and he said he is headed for home this afternoon.

Seems while he was waiting to make a turn off of Crows Landing road some guy pulled from a stop sign and ran into the side of Craig.   The bike is ok but it will be 6 to 8 weeks before Craig is walking.   They have put several pins in his left leg and told him not to put any pressure on it other than during rehab for about 6 weeks.

You can send Craig a card at: Craig Azevedo 10806 Rogers Road  Patterson, CA 95363

You can call Craig at home maybe starting tomorrow at 209-894-3152  I know he would enjoy hearing from some members.

I will update you guys as I hear from Henry.

JR,
I wanted to thank you and Central Sierra Family for passing the hat  for my dad.  My parents were incredibly moved by your generosity.

My   mother is not working right now and the money is a tremendous help.

My father is very proud to be a member and he always wore his colors with pride.  My mom would always tell me that when they went on their rides or rode with HOG my dad would wear his WFMC colors instead of his HOG vest,  every time.

Thank you again for for generosity and I will keep you  informed.  The representative from Hospice told my mother that it  would be one to two weeks.

We will be in touch and thanks for your help,

Injured in motorcycle accident

Dear Sir,

I am very sorry to take so long to get back to you but I am sitting here trying to mend. I was returning from Okla.after a very nice ride last Oct. 22nd when a Man turned directly in front of me, I had not even time to think, just hit him, fly over his car for 70 feet & did several cartwheels. I wound up with four breaks in my left leg, ( two  open ) a toe broke, left ankle & left should broke. The right side had all the toes broken plus the knee bruised all the way through & a couple of front teeth are loose. I spent 45 days in the Hospital, had six surgeries before I made it home. I may have to have more surgery on the left leg, the Doctor ( &I ) are hoping I can make it without any more. I was wearing a full face helmet & full leathers or I would have been dead without a doubt. Two Doctors both said I should have been dead, I lost five pints of blood. I have been riding for 52 years & the only other wreck I had was @ the age of 15, had teeth knocked out & right arm broken.

I sure hope I have not bored you too much but I am so happy to be alive I wanted to share this with you. My Ultra Classic was totaled, as soon as I am sure I will be able to use the left leg I hope to special order anew Ultra Fire Fighter Edition if I can afford it. The man who turned in front of me had only the minimum Insurance required by the state.

Thanks again for listening to me.

Wind&Fire Chapter 113

Hi Riders!

I am passing long some bad news about one of our members that was on his way to meet the riders going to Prescott Friday in preparation for the Burn Camp Ride.

Aaron Hall member #808 had taken off early to go home and get ready to meet the riders at Sta. 50, when some unknown person turn left in front of him.  His bike was totaled.

Aaron has about 50 or so stitches in his face and head ( no real head trauma, Thank GOD).  However the news is not all good.  He has multiple fractures of the Femer and Tibia.  I understand that the doctors have implanted rods in Femur and Tibia.

Aaron is in Maricopa County Hospital - Firefighter Room #2   2601 E. Roosevelt  Phoenix, AZ 85008

No phone calls yet.  He will not be riding or walking for some time.  So some prayers and visitors I am sure would be appreciated.

Visitors are welcome two at a time.  As I get further information I will forward it along to all members.

Note it was apparently a hit and run, the driver looked down at Aaron and took off.  Enough said about that, but I have plenty of thoughts

Larry

Rick Stewart member #1391
 North Kansas City Chapter

"Triple by-pass"

Deputy Fire Chief  Rick Stewart underwent triple by-pass heart surgery on April 12, 2005. Rick is a thirty-five year veteran of the North Kansas City Fire Department and a member of Chapter Nine Wind&Fire MC. As of the writing of this letter Rick was resting comfortably in his hospital bed while the rest of us hold down the fort here at the fire house. Rick has attended several Wind & Fire rally's over the past several years. For those of you who attended the Janesville Wisconsin Rally you might remember Rick from his striptease escapade on the dance floor while our Chapter President Kevin Roumas took pictures of him with no film in his camera. Please join us in praying for and wishing Rick a speedy recovery, he is really looking forward to making it to the Texas rally if his doctor and his spouse give him a green light.

Harold Rogers
http://www.windandfirenorthkansascity.com/

Update from Rick:

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, must have worked. After my heart surgery in April, I'm back to work and feeling good, still sore where they cut my chest open, but happy to be above ground and riding my bike again. I was able to go to little sturgis Kentucky. My wife said I could go as long as Bat Chief Harold Rogers went along (she always trusted him more). Had a good time and getting ready to ride the bike to Houston Aug 2nd with my dad. He's 80 and has a new bike to test out. I mentioned that August was not a good month to ride bikes to Houston. His reply was if I couldn't handle it, to stay home, he's going. I think he was suggesting I was a sissy, so I'm going too. Again, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Rick Stewart, Chapter 9.

One of ore members was hit yesterday by a car while touring around in the south of Belgium Sunday one older person who didn’t see the "brand new" Harley crashed into our Gust and his girlfriend.

I had a phone from Gust in the ambulance. He was in shock because he didn’t now what happened to his girlfriend Erna. Simonne and I and another member drove to the south to see Gust.

In the hospital Gust told us that his shoulder was broken. His girlfriend Erna was not so lucky. Inside she had bleedings at some organs. For this moment they have to stay in Dinant.

"Accident"

Our Chapter President, Mike Meriken, had an accident over the weekend. As he was making a left turn he hit an oil spill, laying the bike over. He thought it would be fun to see if he could fly over the handle bars as his wife stayed on the bike. It worked! He luckly only hurt his arm, but his wife hurt her ribs. The Road King came out unharmed and he should be back on in no time.

Stay safe out there, see you on the open road!

Update on Bruce Reibly

Howdy Patches,

I saw Bruce this afternoon in the ICU recovering from having an aneurysm the size of a football removed from his abdomen. It was on his descending aorta between, but not involving, his renal or femoral arteries and has now been completely replaced by space age material. The three hour surgery went off without any complications and as far as I've been told he can expect a full recovery.

He was still in a lot of pain when I saw him, but he was already cracking all the right jokes in all the right places. It is till too early to know whether or not he'll be at the Inaugural Wind & Fire MC Southern Rally, but personally I would be more surprised if he missed it than if he came down bungee-corded to a Dresser.

He and Erlene and the rest of his family could still use your prayers and best thoughts. I don't know when he'll be home or what his room number at the hospital will be yet, but his e-mail address is "
ber.ent2@verizon.net " if you want to encourage him to hurry up and heal.

See you at the Southern Rally,

"Heart Surgery"

I just got of the phone after talking with Bruce.   He is in high spirits
and said his doctor was one of the best and that he was ready to get it
on.........

His "open heart" surgery is schedule for tomarrow.   He said he asked his
doctor if he could go to Austin and the doc said "we'll see"!

I told Bruce full recovery is what is important, he can always go to the
Rally next year.
