CHILD ADVOCACY PROGRAM

Youth Empowerment Program

An Enhanced Mentoring Program for Abused and Neglected At-Risk Adolescents

Our start-up program is designed for a twelve-month period targeting adolescents ages 12 to 17 years old. The project will include two stages of quarterly direct training for the volunteers and development of testing material for the adolescents and volunteers for feed-back to determine benefit outcome (currently being developed).

SBCAP Volunteers (CASAs) are officers of the court who will be assigned to these youngsters. CASAs will receive additional training on the outlined curriculum to successfully administer the Life Plan Mentoring Program to their assigned youths. We will target quarterly blocks of training for the volunteers for a total one year to complete the program. The progress of the adolescents during the course of their program will be noted and specifically identified as a part of their individualized case plan for the court reports.

Project Description

Life Plan is a youth guidance curriculum manual developed and designed by a group in San Diego specifically to target at risk youth. Life Plan is designed to help develop and nurture the child’s morals and values. This is the basis of any genuine success in a young person’s life.

We believe that applying this mentoring module will enhance the services we provide and give youths the necessary skills to become self sufficient.

The program is an innovative method that provides a year long sequence of activities for teens, ages12-17. The four video cassettes and 100 page workbook involves the student and CASA on many levels.

The primary goal is to lead the teenager through a series of activities that enables them to find a sense of self-worth and responsibility within a working environment.

The first stage of the process is a sequence of mentored projects that teach the basic life skills necessary to move into the work arena.

The second stage focuses on identifying potential career goals and the specific tools needed to reach them.

Life Plan is work-centered and has specific, practical and measured goals. The program’s mission is to lead the child to the realization that their successful future lies in the world of work: gainful employment or entrepreneurial.

The first stage of that process is a series of interactive discussions that transfer the basic "life skills" necessary to move into the work-a-day world. The second stage focuses on identifying potential careers and the specific skills needed to reach them.

Life Plan is work-centered due to the profound belief that children with a vision of their future will act upon that vision. Conversely, children without a vision, behave like they have no future.
