Sun Sign Compatibility
in Hollywood's Golden Age

Was there an astrologer lurking behind the scenes in the Hollywood of the early days, helping to make casting decisions? You might think so from the amazing fact that most of the successful movie love teams of that era--such as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Greta Garbo and John Gilbert, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor-- were compatible by Sun sign.

In a study of twenty-eight of the most popular love teams of Holllywood's golden years, author James Robert Parish showed that most of them were compatible by sign. He included the birth data and Sun sign information for each star in his 1974 book, Hollywood's Great Love Teams. Only a few of the pairs were not compatible by sign. Those who were not, like Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, were often born in adjoining Sun signs, and so had much in common.

Why were such teams popular? Probably because of the real rapport and friendly feelings that members of compatible Sun signs generally feel for each other, whether romance is involved or not.

Want to know your own most compatible signs? Here they are:

ARIES Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini and Aquarius.
TAURUS Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer and Pisces.
GEMINI Libra, Aquarius, Aries and Leo.
CANCER Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus and Virgo.
LEO Aries, Sagittarius, Gemini and Libra.
VIRGO Taurus, Capricorn, Cancer and Scorpio.
LIBRA Gemini, Aquarius, Leo and Sagittarius.
SCORPIO Cancer, Pisces, Virgo and Capricorn.
SAGITTARIUS Leo, Aries, Libra and Aquarius.
CAPRICORN Virgo, Taurus, Scorpio and Pisces.
AQUARIUS Libra, Gemini, Sagittarius and Aries.
PISCES Scorpio, Cancer, Capricorn and Taurus.

Adjoining Sun Signs

Those born in adjoining Sun signs are also often alike enough through the Mercury or Venus links they may share to be compatible. Why do they share Mercury or Venus links? Because Mercury and Venus are never far from the Sun in a person's chart. Often one or both of these planets might be in a sign adjoining yours in the zodiac. Those relationships that really work may also have their Moon, Mars, other planet or rising sign in their partner's Sun sign, giving them traits or interests in common.

See the list of signs above to note which signs adjoin yours.

The long-married Hollywood pair, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward have adjoining sun signs. Although he was born in airy, intellectual Aquarius and she was born in sensitive, emotional Pisces, they get along through the many other links in their charts.

Newman has his Moon in Pisces conjunct her Sun, a real soulmate tie, so that he would understand her emotional nature. To match that, Woodward has her Moon in Aquarius, his Sun sign. Newman also has Uranus in Pisces. Woodward also has both Mercury and Mars in her husband's sign of Aquarius.

Not only does each have one or more planets in the other's Sun sign, but the two share several placements in the sign adjoining his--Capricorn. Both have practically the same degree of Capricorn rising, and he has Mercury, Venus and Jupiter in Capricorn. She has Saturn in Capricorn.

The Newman/Woodward compatibility links are unusual. Unless a potential mate has many such links with your chart, you may be more comfortable with someone whose Sun is in one of the signs considered to be most compatible to yours.
