With her recent Academy Award winning performance in the film Chicago, actress Catherine Zeta Jones has secured her place as one of Hollywood’s most dazzling stars. Since her first dancing lesson at age four in her hometown in Wales, she has gone from one triumph to another on stage, screen and television, both in Great Britain and the United States. When she wed two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas, she married into Hollywood royalty.
Obviously, her astrological chart must sparkle with as much energy, talent, charm and good luck as are evident in her professional and personal life. As you answer the following questions, you’ll see some examples of these energies at work. You’ll also discover your current level of astrological learning. Beginners will do well to deal with the first five questions; intermediate students, the next five. Only the advanced will get a perfect score.
1.Catherine’s high energy and exuberant personality were very obvious in the Academy Award winning film Chicago. As she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in that role, she displayed a fine example of her Ascendant sign, _________. No shrinking violet, she appeared high-spirited, warm, honest and delightfully humorous. With this fire sign rising, she is likely to thrive on travel, change and independence.
2.But with her Sun in the sign ______, she would also feel a strong need for partnership and the married life. Her smiling social presence and artistic talents could also be attributed to this zodiacal sign, which she shares with husband, Michael Douglas. He was born under the same sign, on the same day of the year, but twenty-five years earlier.
3. The sign of her Moon, _____, also suggests acting, singing, dancing as well as other artistic talents. This sign has a great affinity for make-believe, fantasy and illusions. Such a Moon often signifies great sensitivity and compassion for others.
4. There are several indications in Catherine’s chart that show great vitality, the kind needed to become tap-dancing champion of Great Britain, which she was in her early years. For example, _______, the planet of high energy and a will-to-win, rises in the portion of her chart that rules her physical self and personality.
5. The planet in question #4 is located in the sign _______, which flavors the planetary symbol of raw energy with the focused ambition and self-discipline needed to practice steadily and persist in rising to the top.
6. The characteristics one looks for in a marriage partner are described by the _______ house, the sign on its cusp, and the ruler of that sign. Considering that Catherine’s Rising Sign is _________, (see question #1), she would have the sign ____ on the cusp of her marriage house.
7. The ruler of this marriage house, _______, is in the same sign as her Sun and that of her husband’s Sun, indicating a preference for a man who exemplifies traits of that sign.
8. Her marriage ruler is located in a house of her chart that indicates one might marry an individual from another country, as she did. This house--which also rules travel, higher education, world affairs, publishing, publicity, and legal matters--is, of course, the ________ house.
9. In a woman’s chart, other indicators of the type of man a woman would prefer are seen by the sign of her ______ and ______ . Since Michael’s ______ is in the same sign as Catherine’s, he would exemplify the qualities she’d like in a man. Her _____ , the other significator of men in a woman’s chart, is in the same sign as his Moon—and also represents the kind of male energy she likes.
10. There is a tie between their two charts that isn’t obvious at first glance. His Sun at 2 degrees of its sign is at the ________ ____ of her Moon at 28 degrees of its sign. This is similar to a Sun/Moon conjunction between male and female, an indication they might relate on a very deep male/female level.
11. Catherine’s Sun and four of her planets are located in the house of her chart described in question #8, giving much power to this house. This emphasis indicates an interest in the world beyond her native land. Such a grouping of planets close together in one house or sign is called a __________.
12. In the ______ Symbols, the degree of Catherine’s Moon is described as “Light Breaking Into Many Colors As It Passes Through A Prism.” This seems to fit her colorful personality and her versatile talents. The symbols were the inspiration of clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler in conjunction with astrologer ______ _______ _______.
13. Catherine started her career early. By age eleven, she was on stage playing the title role in a local production of the musical Annie. That year, by secondary progression, her Ascendant had moved forward to conjunct her natal Mars and her converse MC was conjunct her progressed Jupiter, aspects that often indicate a “big break” year. If her natal MC was at 27 Libra, then converse MC would have been located at about _____ degrees Libra that year.
14. When Michael Douglas proposed to Catherine on New Year’s Eve 1999, Catherine’s progressed Venus was conjunct her marriage-house ruler. When they married on November 8, 2000, that marriage aspect was one degree past in her progressed chart (they had already been together as a couple for at least a year). But progressed Mercury and progressed Jupiter were just minutes apart in the ninth house. How would you interpret the close conjunction of Mercury and Jupiter there? ________
15. At the birth of a first child, a woman will have at least one progressed aspect to the ruler of her _____ house or its ruler. At the birth of Dylan Michael Douglas on August 8, 2000, Catherine had two progressions to her Venus, while transiting Venus was conjunct natal Venus and the converse Sun that day. In addition, her progressed Sun was sextile and converse Sun was conjunct natal Venus, while transiting Venus was conjunct natal Venus and the converse Sun that day. In this case, transiting Venus acted as a _______ planet.
