11.8@120mph Best Quarter Mile Pass (Details Below!)
Thanks for visiting! I am the proud owner of the ATI Supercharged Red 1995 Z-28 featured on this page. (Link for Pics BELOW!) The car
is fully loaded with tan leather, T-tops, power everything and six-speed tranny. The car has been
fairly extensively modifed with bolt on performance parts. The list below covers most of the
components I have added to the car to make it capable of 11.8 second quarter mile passes at
speeds in excess of 120mph. Please note that the engine (Lt1) is completely stock and untouched.
The valve covers were never off this car. Also the 11.8@119 (Best mph 120.3) timeslip featured on this page was run with the full exhaust, drag radials, on pump gas, with the stock 3.42 gears!
Here is a pic of the car waiting in line to stage:
Here is the list of Performance mods:
ATI 8 pound supercharger with 2 core intercooler (The best supercharger kit produced in
terms of value and performance IMHO)
1 3/4 SLP single cat style headers
3 inch mandrel bent catback to Flowmaster Race muffler 53033
52mm Throttle body with coolant bypass
MSD 6A with hypertech coil
HPP+ with blower tuning
Scanmaster by Modern Musclecar (Awesome for tuning the engine with the blower)
Centerforce dual friction clutch with ripper shifter
Hotchkiss LCA's and Panhard Rod
MAC Subframe connectors
LT-4 Knock Module (Great for getting rid of false knock) Dynoed at 16.5 RWHP on a Vortech 8# car.
Flo Tech Torque arm. (The best T/A on the Market) Reduced my 1/4 time by 6 full tenths on
drag radials. HUGE DIFFERENCE!! (Special Thanks to Wally at Flo Tech for his great service and tech advice!! Your number ONE!! :)
Stock Rear end with stock 3.42's and take off series three carrier from SLP (Killed the
first carrier running slicks! LOL!)
24# SVO injectors and Hypertech AFPR (SVO injectors are necessary at this boost level
as the stock injectors often go static)
Enkie Win "Cx" rims with 275/40/17 BFG Comp T/A's up front and 315/35/17 BFG Drag Radials rear
NGK TR-5 plugs at .035 gap
Centerline rims with 165r15 skinnies up front (Not pictured here)
26x10 inch MT ET Drags on 15 inch rims
Here's an engine pic:
That just about covers all the mods to the car. Most of the mods I installed myself (ie blower, headers, T-body etc. etc) Future plans include the following:
355/383 bottom end with forged internals (Forged crank and rods, 9.2-9.5:1 forged pistons)
Flotec heads (Wally at Flo Tech is the man behind these)
Comp cams blower grind cam (Fairly mild for streetability and ease of tuning)
4 inch Mufflex exhaust
36-42# injectors
Port matched intake manifold
Custom Programming by Ed Wright or Ron Zimmer
Possibly a 3 core intercooler upgrade
15 psi pulley upgrade from ATI (Should show about 11-12psi at the manifold with the massive airflow increase from the heads, cam and extra displacement
This combo should safely net me LOW 11 high 10 second quarter mile passes in excess of
130mph. I'll keep everyone posted as to the progress of my engine buildup. (Hopefully it will be completed by June!! Keeping my fingers crossed!) Thanks to everyone for visiting!! Much more to come in the NEAR future! Including links to friends Web Pages and other great Vendors on the Web!!
I have decided on the Mufflex 4 inch race exhaust with the chromed 4 inch slashed tip instead of the stock turned down tip. The guys at Mufflex were really helpful and predict at least a 3mph improvement in quarter mile trap speeds over my current 3 inch system! 123mph on a internally bone stock LT1 sounds good to me! I am also planning to install new springs, shocks, struts, swaybars and transmission mount from SLP. The entire package came to only 68.00 Bucks! Not a bad deal considering it is all new 1998 hardware. This should considerably improve the ride of the car considering the 40K miles on the original suspension. (Not to mention the 2 years of abuse on slicks and drag radials at the dragstrip!!) After the four inch exhaust an injector upgrade to 28# units may be necessary due to the increased airflow. Thats all the news for now, more updates to come!
