With the recent success of religious themed suspense
films such as STIGMATA and THE OMEGA CODE (as well as
the inevitable success of END OF DAYS with Arnold S.
coming in Nov. 99), I think it is time we pay tribute
to one of the greatest horror trilogy of all time.
People refer to Darth Vader, Hannibal Lector, Freddy,
and Jason as the most charismatic and menacing
villians of all time. But what do these villians have
in common? Pure Evil. And where did this evil
originate? I would argue the devil himself. So
wouldn't the devil be one of the greatest cinematic
villains of all time if put into a decent film. The Omen II follows the life of
Damian into adolescence where he enters a military
school and soon all hell breaks loose once again
(figuratively and literally). THE FINAL CONFLICT
appears to confirm Damian's invincibility as an adult
when he becomes a US ambassador as well as the head of
a major corporation. However, italian monks privy to
the true Damian unleash a last ditch effort to destroy
the son of Satan along with a female reporter. The OMEN trilogy contains some of the most
amazing killing sequences in cinema history. The Omen
involves a plate glass window. The Omen II involves a
elevator. Finally the FINAL CONFLICT involves a
suicide by gunshot. You've GOT to see these scenes! A
special thanks to Jake for giving me this opportunity.
And being a true horror fan, he better run to the
local video to catch this trilogy tonight!
The
Exorcist trilogy is a great series but tends to get
all the credit in the category of satanic cinema.
THE OMEN,
Damien: OMEN II, THE FINAL CONFLICT: OMEN III
The Omen begins with the coming of the antichrist
mistakenly switched at birth and finding shelter with
a US ambassador and his wife. Mysterious happenings
including suicides, an overprotective nanny as well as
crazed wildlife (dogs, birds, and an entire animal
zoo!) soon point to the mysterious origins of Damian
as the son of Satan.
William Holden plays
Damian's caretaker who becomes suspicious of Damian's
true identity (just as Gregory Peck did in the first).
However, just as Gregory Peck failed in the first to
destroy Damian with the sacred 7 daggers, so does
William Holden's character.
The Omen trilogy is a riveting tale of mankind versus
an anti-god. Cunning, deceptive and charismatic,
Damian aligns himself with characters that will lead
him to world domination. The battle that ensues is
nothing less than spectacular. And gore hounds do not
despair.
