PENGUIN FACT: MOST PEOPLE ASSOCIATE PENGUINS WITH THE NORTH POLE (SANTA CLAUS). ACTUALLY THEY RESIDE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE (South Pole), AS FAR NORTH AS NEW ZEALAND, THE FALKLAND ISLANDS AND EVEN THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS NEAR THE EQUATOR
Penguins have been used to sell a variety of products from alcohol beverages to xereo copiers and everything in between. Remember Opus, Chilly Willy, Tennesse Tuxedo, Pip, Tacky, Penguin Pete and Mr. Popper's Penguins? What about the Pittsburg Penguins, the Bud Ice Penguins and Batman's imfamous The Penguin (played by Burgess Meredith in the television series and later by Danny Devito in the movie)? Monty Dolack immortalized them in his poster, "The Refrigeraiders". The San Francisco Music Box Company use penguins for several of their snow globes. The Franklin Mint and the Hamilton Collection have penguin statues and sculptures.
PENGUIN FACT: THERE ARE SEVENTEEN OR EIGHTEEN SPECIES IN THE PENGUIN FAMILY (EXPERTS DIFFER ON EXACTLY HOW MANY THERE ARE)
My collection contains over two hundred items. My fetish for collecting penguins began innocently. Rod, my late husband and I worked for a company which used them as a mascot/logo. The collection's humble beginnings were a greeting card and trio of the fellows made of pewter. I bought most of the pieces. Friends have given me many as gifts. Especially my friend, Peggy, who understands my craving for penguins because she collects angels. So if you know any web sites or have tips on where to purchase any thing angel, please email her. She now complains about finding penguin paraphernalia which are unique and that I do not have. Peggy gave me almost all the stuffed ones. But my treasured piece is a cookie jar of a penguin holding a bottle of Coca-Cola (I'm from the "Old Generation!") which she gave me one Christmas. My other prized pieces are an adult and a chick made of Australian silver crystal (Swarovski) and an Erza Brooks bourbon whiskey decanter. A brother-in-law spotted the decanter in a second hand shop. I didn't rest until it was in my possession. The oddest pieces are a mini vacuum cleaner and a pewter button. Someday I hope to have one entire room in my home dedicated to the collection. I am a total junkie when it comes to penguins. I can not go shopping locally or out of town with out looking for anything penguin. I even adopted on at the San Francisco Zoo in 1991 in memory of my husband. On my home computer the wallpaper is penguins and the screensaver says PENGUIN LADY. My work computer wallpaper is a penguin I drew using Microsoft Paint. If you collect penguins and want a unique gift for someone or an addition for your private collection is the best link in cyberspace. Eric Bennett has taken penguin collecting to the next level.
PENGUIN FACT: PENGUINS DIVE TO ASTOUNDING DEPTHS AND ARE CAPABLE OF STAYING DOWN FOR MINUTES AT A TIME. AVERAGE DIVES ARE THREE HUNDRED FEET OR LESS. BUT THE DEEPEST DIVE RECORED WAS OVER THIRTEEN HUNDRED FEET
I worked with a gentleman who is also a collector of these fine, feathered and flightless friends. So I know there are others like me. I would love to hear from penguin lovers from around the world. Please email me.

PENGUIN FACT: IN MOST SPECIES, THE FEMALES GENERALLY LAY TWO EGGS A FEW DAYS APART. DURING THE INCUBATION PERIOD THE PARENTS USUALLY TAKE TURNS SITTING ON THE EGGS. EXCEPT IN THE EMPEROR AND KING PENGUIN SPECIES, WHERE THE MALES ARE RESPONSIBILE FOR INCUBATING THE EGGS.
