Q: What is a stun gun?
A: A stun gun is a hand held, battery powered, self-defense device used to impare an attacker. Touching the attacker with the gun's metal probes while pressing the safety switch quickly causes loss of muscle control and severe pain, thus immobilizing the assailant. The combination of high voltage and low amperage make the stun gun an effective, yet non-lethal self-defensive tool with proven "knock down" power! Stun guns are widely used by law enforcement and security agencies as well as private individuals.
Q: How do stun guns work?
A: Stun guns react with the assailant's nervous system. Electric energy is delivered to the muscles at a high pulse rate causing them to work rapidly, but inefficiently. In a matter of moments, the process converts blood sugar into lactic acid resulting in acute energy loss, thus making it difficult for the assailant to move or function. Simultaniously, neurological impulses which effect muscle movement are interrupted causing intense pain, disorientation and loss of balance. Typically, the attacker remains in a passive and confused condition for several minutes.
Q: How do I use a stun gun?
A: Touch the stun gun's metal probes to the assailant's body while pressing the safety switch.
Q: What are the effects of a stun gun charge on the assailant?
A: The typical effects are; a quarter or half second charge will startle and repel the assailant causing intense pain and muscle contraction. One to two seconds will result in severe pain, muscle spasms and a dazed mental state, possibly dropping the attacker to the ground. Three seconds or more will cause loss of balance, loss of muscle control, severe mental confusion and disorientation. Typically, a charge over three seconds will cause the assailant to fall to the ground, unable to recover for up to fifteen minutes, thereby allowing the victim an opportunity to escape. Effects may vary depending upon the specifications of a particular stun gun and/or other factors.
Q: If an assailant grabs or touches me while I'm using the stun gun will I get zapped?
A: No, even if the assailant is touching you while you are activating the stun gun, you will not receive any discharge back to your own body.
Q: Is the stun gun effective on any part of the assailant's body?
A: Absolutely, however the most effective contact areas are; below the rib cage, in the shoulder and upper hip.
Q: Does the stun gun work through clothing?
A: Yes, all BLACK COBRA stun guns are designed to be effective through typical clothing. Higher voltage models may be somewhat more effective penetrating heavier attire.
Q: Can the stun gun be used multiple times?
A: Yes, with a fresh battery the stun gun can be fired many times in rapid sucession making it an effective choice for defending yourself against multiple attackers.
Q: Are stuns guns effective on persons who are intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics?
A: Yes!
Q: How can I test my stun gun?
A: Aim the stun gun away from yourself and other persons. Press the safety switch for less than one second. If your stun gun is in working order and has sufficient battery power you will see sparks between the metal probes and a distinct crackling sound will be heard. It is a good idea to test the unit from time to time. After testing, a very small charge may remain temporarily in the unit's power capicitor. To assure a full discharge, turn the stun gun off and touch the contacts momentarily to metal. This will fully discharge the unit and prevent you from receiving a mild shock, should you accidentally touch the contact probes.
Q: What kind of battery do I need?
A: The BLACK COBRA GAMMA uses a standard 9 volt alkaline battery which can be found wherever batteries are sold. Many 9 volt rechargable batteries are also acceptable. Always make sure your battery is fresh (or fully charged if using the rechargable type). A depleted battery will impare the stun gun's effectivness or casue it to fail.

A: Stun guns are currently legal in many USA locations however there are some restricted states, cities and/or counties.
