Saddle Sweat Radio/Swing Boogie
Well, as you can guess I'm one of those non politically correct tradionalist radio guy's who still celebrate bad taste with a smile. My mentors where a diverse group of compadre's from KFAT, a radio station in Gilroy, CA that went defunk back in the winter of 83. Uncle Sherman, Cuzin' Al, Rocket Man (Mark Defranco)Terrel Lynn Thomas, Buffalo Bob, and Laura Ellen Hopper, Rick Nagle and Wild Bill Goldsmith. Were among those, who taught me the ways of radio. Tom Mix had a lot to do with it too.
I started with KKUP in 1984, I had a late night program called "saddle sweat" I was green and learning the ropes so to speak. Well after a long night of beer drinkin' at the (Peanut Farm Saloon in Woodside) a few of my buddies would end up at the radio station and we have us a time as they say. Some of the programs I did proved to also be the most tasteless to ever be on the air. However, Mario say's that those shows are pure legendary. So between doing air shifts on FAT cable radio in Gilroy, CA for Bill Goldsmith, on Saturday nights. Until a lawyer in 1987 requested that my non conforming programing ways are not in conjunction with the future of KKUP. So Bill Goldsmith hired me to DJ on KFAT CABLE RADIO. Then after a long eight years off of the "legal" air waves. I caught the radio bug again.
Finally in 1996 I managed to worm my way into a more desirable time slot on KKUP (when I wasn’t playing on Pirate radio 102.3 fm’s Wild West Radio) and with the help of Jim Maley, Tasmanian Tim, Dave Barnet and Rick Nagle. I joined the Swing Boogie Program Saturday’s from 3 to 6 pm.
I invite you to join me and my fellow musicologist for an afternoon of music, where you can hear: country western, country rock, western swing, bluegrass, blues, comedy, folk, and novelty music.
