Welcome and thank you for being here.
My name is Mimi-Cristien Nguyen. I was born and raised in Vietnam. I escaped Vietnam in 1988. I spent almost two years in a Refugee Camp in Malaysia. Arrived to America early '90. I grew up in a German-American adopted family in Rochester, NY. I moved to California in 1999. Currently, I am a graduate student in pursuing a JD degree in Law and Public Policy.
I designed this web site as a resource for anyone who want to gain an understanding about Asian or Asian America in this country as well to serve as a source of inspiration for my fellow Asian brothers and sisters. Hopefully, this site will help to shape people's perception about us both for others and for ourselves. The material in this web site not only contain my own experiences as a Vietnamese American who grew up in this country, but it also provides other experiences, perspectives of other people with Asian descent. The experiences presented in this web site express our similarity--of comfort as well as pain. However, they do not and should not confine us. We are our own experiences/identities/perspectives/ personalities. Our voices represent our individual selves and we dare not generalize nor force our expressions to fit those of other Asians/Asian Americans. Do not lump us together--because we can't breathe when you do. Please, DO NOT use these materials as a tool to stereotype or to oppress us.
