| As mayor of New York, Rudy presided over the largest removal of poor and low-income residents in the city's history. In the name of "cleaning up the city" Rudy waged all-out war on the homeless, using the police to sweep homeless people from the streets and threatening to evict homeless families from shelters if parents failed to meet work requirements. During the real estate and gentrification boom of the '90s, Rudy aided developers in their efforts to evict low-income tenants and replace them with more upscale residents. As "Godfather," Rudy made the poor of New York City an offer they couldn't refuse: Get Out! Now he wants to do same for the rest of America. |
