The Dome of the Rock and the Old City of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives at sunrise. The present city walls, visible here, were built under Ottoman rule in the 16th Century. The sunrise in Jerusalem is noted for its soft, pinkish-gold glow, owing to its effect on the local limestone of which most of the city is built. High-rise buildings in the background are outside the Old City's walls in the new Israeli city of West Jerusalem.
