February Meetings

Meetings are held in the large upstairs room at the Heather Farm Garden Center, Walnut Creek, and are scheduled on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, from 7:00PM to 9:30PM.

Joint Meeting Format - For 2009, the club will hold Joint Class meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. To allow K to address a lecture to both the basic and intermediate members, there will be a basic level lecture at 7:00, and an intermediate level lecture at 7:30.  Basic members should arrive before 7:00; intermediate members should arrive either before 7:00 or between 7:20 and 7:30.  Please do not arrive between 7:00 and 7:20, when you would disturb the basic lecture. During the intermediate lecture, the basic members should either quietly listen to the lecture, or work on their trees. Please don't disturb the lecture!


Potting Session
- We will hold the second of our annual potting sessions at the Tassajara Nursery on Saturday, February 7th at 9:30am. Bring your trees, tools, and pots; potting medium will be available from the club for a small charge. Members' trees only, please. The last of the potting sessions will be held on Saturday, February 28th, again at 9:30 at the Tassajara Nursery.


Diablo Bonsai Club Look Ahead Schedule

Tuesday, March 10th - 7:00pm.   Joint Class Meeting of both classes.  Propagation of plants from seed and cutting.
                                                       Refreshments and help with cleanup and close:  Jeff Heffel and David Holmgren.

2nd Annual major fundraiser for the continued construction of the new expanded Bonsai Pavilion at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, located at the Crowne Plaza Hanalei, 2270 Hotel Circle North. GSBF Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt: 18th Annual Mammoth Fundraiser
at the Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Avenue.  Saturday, Feb 28th Auction 1PM-4PM with preview 12Noon-1PM.  Sunday,      (Mar 1) Mammoth Fundraiser 10AM-5PM.  Demonstration and critiques by Kathy Shaner, Curator.  Vendors, benefit drawings, raffles and large consignment sale of bonsai and bonsai related items.

GSBF Collection at the Huntington Bonsai-A-Thon XIII,
fundraiser will be held at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road.  Hours are 7:30AM - 4:30PM each day.  Many vendors of trees, pots, tools and books will be on hand.  Ongoing demonstrations each day and the finished trees and other items will be auctioned each afternoon.  Breakfast, lunch, raffles and novice workshops will be offered.  Jim Folsom will lead tours each morning at 10:00AM that will include the grand opening of the new Bonsai Courts.  For more information contact Elissa Hoxie: (310) 373-2840 or (310 977-7966).  Email ehoxie@mac.com
