From the President

A reminder that Club dues are due and owing for 2004. Dues are annually due by December 31st. $40.00 for one member and $60.00 for a couple.

The Club annually does field trips to several bonsai nurseries for members to acquire material to work on for the new year and as donation materials for future shows, and to get ideas for future development. A reminder one of the traditional expectations of all members is the donation of suitable bonsai material for the show. Intermediate members are expected to donate material of a five gallon or larger size and that has had basic training and development for at least one year. Basic class members are expected to donate two trees of a one gallon or larger size and that has had some basic training and development for at least one year. Except that new members will not have a full year to train their trees and whatever level of development they have been able to achieve is acceptable. It is often economical and prudent in thinking ahead to acquire some material for the next year or two. The two field trips and their accompanying potting sessions have been scheduled for January and February of 2004 and are listed in the "Diablo Bonsai Look Ahead Schedule" below.

There is still a need for a Basic Class Representative. The duties include setting up the room, basically making hot water for coffee and getting out the refreshment supplies from the cabinet and opening the Library. Then putting away and and locking up the club supplies and Library. Also conducting the Business Meeting and reporting to the board ideas and concerns of the Basic Class Members.
