The Kern County Sheriffs Department is looking
for people who have their STC certertification. and
the PC 832 certification. They need to call the sheriff

Under the supervision of the cook supervisor, the cook is in
charge of shift responsibilities to plan, organize, supervise
and assist with the preparation and distribution of all food
at the Correctional Facility.
Duties:
Coordinates and participates in all food service activities
of inmate workers including preparing and cooking foods;
distributes the appropriate quantities of food to the facility
dining room; estimates food consumption; coordinates work of
inmate personnel engaged in preparing, cooking and serving of
meals; keeps inmate time cards and pay sheets current and
accurate; documents inmate behavior and work performance;
reports unusual occurrences and/or breaches of security;
receives and checks food and supplies for quality and quantity;
and may employ, train and discharge inmate workers.
Requirements:
at least one year food service experience. Experience
as a cook in large kitchens with responsibility of planning,
preparation and serving of meals is preferred.
Knowledge of:
principles, procedures, and equipment used in the storage,
care, preparation, cooking and baking, dispensing, and
serving of food in large quantities; food handling, sanitation,
and the sanitation and safety measures used in the operation,
cleaning and care of utensils, equipment and work areas; food
accounting and adjusting rations to changing needs; keeping
inventories and making requisitions; preparation and use of
recipes in a food control program; food values as well as
nutritional and economical substitutions within food groups.
Skills in:
judging food quality; preparing and cooking quantity foods
according to nutritional standards and planned menus;
maintaining accurate records and preparing reports; making
arithmetic calculations, including fractions and decimals;
reading and writing English at a level required for successful
job performance; plan, organize, and directing the work of
others; adjust rations to changing needs; keeping inventories
and make requisitions; analyzing situations accurately and
adopting an effective course of action; and keeping records
and prepare reports.

Candidates must also possess a valid California drivers
license; be at least 21 years of age; be a United States
citizen or legal resident; have no felony convictions and
possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Based on an evaluation of the information contained on the
application materials, the most qualified candidates will be
invited to appear before an appraisal board for an oral
interview. The appraisal board will evaluate each candidate's
experience, education, knowledge and abilities for the
position. The oral interview examination is weighted at
100%.
Prior to appointment, successful candidates must successfully
pass a background investigation that includes drug testing,
and medical examination. Appointments are subject to a 6-month
probationary period. One vacancy currently exists.
