9/4/02 - Today was the last up-north AACF small group for the summer. Tragic. It was good though. Sang a few songs. Shared a few laughs. It was a good time. We went to the A's game afterwards, which was very not bad. I usually don't enjoy watching baseball. Especially the kind of baseball where they hit round things with big wooden sticks and guys run around a sideways square. But this time it was different. This was actually the first real baseball game I've been to in my life. Okay, well I went to a Giants game when I was a sophomore in high school but I went with my friend who knew just as little about the sport as I did and I also sat in a box, so I didn't get the whole "baseball game atmosphere" so that doesn't count. Also, today was special because the A's broke the record for the most consecutive wins in American League history. Good for them! Yea it was pretty awesome but still not as awesome as my weekend. But close to almost half as good. Yup. Then I had some good almond jello made by miss Jane Honda. Yes yes.
School Countdown: 18 days.
Download this song NOW: A Capella Version of Cake - Never There.
9/2/02 - Well, I just had about the best weekend EVER. Friday, August 30, 2002 was my BIRTHDAY and a bunch of my UCLA friends came up to visit. We had ourselves some Hot Pot City and just hangin out time after that. I had 6 people staying at my house all weekend. Thank you (in no particular order) Kristen, Mike, Emily, Fu, Alex, and Christine for coming up and making my otherwise dull life.. uh, not so dull. I had a blast! Just don't get so excited when we pass by Castro anymore allright, Fu? Also thanks everyone for all the cool stuff I got, and thank you Cindy for the video and thank you God for such great friends. Oh, and thank you Fat-half-naked-man-who-sang-beneath-the-bridge-at-Stow-Lake. You're the REAL reason this weekend was special. WOO!! Yes, it was a fine weekend indeed.
School Countdown: 20 Days.
Song you should download RIGHT NOW: Hangnail - Second Guess.
8/29/02 - I went to a minor league baseball game today. That was kinda cool because no one really took it seriously. You just kinda go there to catch foul balls. You know what else is funny? Besides this one Chinese family, my half-Japanese friend and my half-Indian friend, I was the only Asian guy there. Apparently there's really no Asian scene to be found at a San Jose Giants game. I think Asians should step out of their pearl-milk-tea-and-Acura-Integra-filled bubble and try something different that our great country has to offer. Like minor league sports. Oh, and cow tipping.
Randomness: What is Justin Timberlake trying to prove? SOLO?! Please. Give me a break. I hope the other N'Sync guys were outside the VMA's waiting to beat his ass after the show.
Good News: My friends from LA are coming up tomorrow. It's gonna be the shizzle.
8/26/02 - This guy gave me the finger today when I was driving home from my cousin's house. Now that was uncalled for. Come on now I don't deserve that. I think that guy in the white Yukon is the King of Cruel. It's a good thing I wasn't carrying my piece. That sucka would be goin down.
8/25/02 - Went up to Berkeley with Kevin today. They start school tomorrow. You know when UCLA starts? Yea a month from now. I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself for the next 3 weeks. Sitting on my bed of money with many beautiful women just isn't going to cut it for much longer. Speaking of beautiful women, I had dinner with many up in Berkeley tonight. We went to Sanny's apartment and we and her apartmentmates all cooked a huge feast for dinner. Her neighbors all came over too and brought sushi! WOO!! Much love to the sushi. Oh, Paul Zimmerman and Korey came too and I suppose they're almost as beautiful. I made shishkabobs with beef and shrimp. I kinda just made up the marinades for the meats and they came out really well. I marinated the shrimp with pineapple juice. PINEAPPLE JUICE! Have I gone MAD?? YESS! Mad with creative genius! Yea you guys shoulda been there. I was just putting whatever into the marinades and it came out pretty good. Later Carol came over and we all hung out for a while. it was crazygonuts. Okay time to go to bed. Until next time, keep the juices flowin'!
Randomness: Cooking Tip of the Day - Anything tastes better when it's wrapped in bacon.
8/24/02 - DID NOTHING TODAY. My mom was up in SF all day cuz my grandma is pretty sick (could you pray for her, guys?). So I just kinda sat at home all day trying to find something to do. I ended up going to Kevin's so he could teach me how to play guitar. I got my first real callous. Yea that one's a keeper. Then at night I went to church to get some dinner and then babysit the junior highers/high schoolers. Their youthful antics served to remind me of just how old I'm getting. At around 10 Jonathan, Gordon, Mori, Sean, and Mike came over and we watched Iron Chef, then we went to In-N-Out. But first we went to Carl's Jr. to get food cuz Jon doesn't eat beef. There were two thuggy guys there who were really being jerks. And one of them was all staring me down and I was like, "What, biznitch?" and he was all, "Who you tryin' to get crazy wit, ese? Don't you know I'm loco?" and I was like, "Don't dial me up, cuz this is one phone number you do NOT want to be connected to" and then he got out of my face cuz he knew he was no match for my kung fu grip. Okay that didn't really happen, but it was about to. Well after In-N-Out we rented Super Troopers. It was allright. Something to watch when you feel like lowering your IQ. Then I came home and updated my website. And now I'm going to sleep.
Randomness: BRING BACK THE TICK!!
8/22/02 - Went to the mall with Edelyn today. As usual, I didn't buy anything. I did, however, get some darn good clam chowder from Ivar's. If you haven't had clam chowder from Ivar's, then baby, you haven't had clam chowder! Okay I'm exaggerating a little bit but it's still good. I just don't want a bunch of angry e-mails telling me that they don't think Ivar's chowder is that great and that I'm full of it. But that would only be if there were more than 3 people who actually checked this site on a regular basis. Which there aren't. So you know what? Ivar's clam chowder is a delectable gourmet experience every chowder connoisseur should enjoy. There. I said it. Let the angry e-mails roll. I saw the part of Santana Row that caught on fire. You know what? No big deal. No one was hurt and the fire didn't last more than a couple hours. What I'm angry about is that the firefighters decided to save the empty building frames first instead of people's homes. With people in them. And people's possessions. What's wrong with them?? I would write more but I'm really tired.
Randomness: I need 200 bucks to buy a drumset. I think it would be a good investment for AACF to make. Nothin' wrong with drums.
8/20/02 - Today a lady called me asking if i could tutor her daughter in the SATs. I told her that I could tutor SAT math but I'm not that great with verbal (this was all in my broken Chinese). Then she asked me how much I charged and I said 15 dollars an hour. Then she said she would call me back. I have yet to recieve her call. Yea I don't think she's going to call back. You know what? I don't need this kind of aggravation. I am an important person! People are SCARED of me! I'm the friggin King of Cool for crying out loud! You don't tell someone with my kind of authority that you'll "Call me back." No, uh-uh. No you di-n't, girlfriend. I am all that AND a bag of Doritos. So then I watched xXx. It was allright and rediculous at the same time. But I guess it was enjoyable. Welcome home, Carol and Pam.
BIRTHDAY: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDON CHINN!
Website I like: homestarrunner.com, Click skip, then go to 'Toons, then Features, then Strong Bad E-mail. That's some funny shizzle.
8/19/02 - Just got back from my church's summer retreat and BOY HOWDY am I tired! I was a counselor this year, which was a pretty different experience for me. Yea. It was awesome. And Joanna from the game group I was leading said I'm the King of Cool. I think I'm going to start going by that from now on. From this day forth I will no longer respond to my name unless it is followed or preceded by "the King of Cool." Please take note.
Randomness: So how about this new look, huh? Pretty cool, huh? You might even say it's "The King of Cool." But then you'd be wrong because that title belongs to me.
8/17/02 - (okay it's not really the 17th, cuz I was at a church retreat all weekend which was AWESOME but I need to say this one thing..) HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATALIE HO!
8/14/02 - I think most of what I've been putting up in this section this summer has been pretty dull. Today there was a CIA (my church's youth group) BBQ at Rainbow park. I decided to wear one of my old computer shirts (my mom used to refuse to pay money for shirts, so she would get me free shirts at conventions that had advertisements for computer companies I never heard of) that I had cut the sleeves and sides off of. Edelyn yelled at me cuz she said my shirt was too revealing and she could see "stuff." Man, why are you looking there anyway, Edelyn! I just wanna stay cool in the hot summer sun. Leave me and my exposed nipples alone.
Randomness: I forgot to mention this a couple weeks ago, but I HATE NORTH BEACH IN SAN FRANCISCO!! It took me 50 minutes and an 1/8th of a tank of gas to find parking there. That's why I like living in 'Tino. The parking is ample and the ladies is fine. Like butta.
8/12/02 - Cheers is on Nick at Nite now. I used to watch Cheers when I was little. And now it's playing alongside shows like Happy Days and Taxi. I cannot freakin' believe it. I'M NOT THAT OLD. And you know what else? Speed was playing on AMC last night. You know what AMC stands for? American Movie CLASSICS. Yea, CLASSICS!! It's a CLASSIC NOW. Speed = CLASSIC. Shoot me now.
Birthday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN HSIAO!
Randomness: Whatever happened to Salt 'n Pepa?
8/8/02 - Done with summer school baby. Now to get back to what I really wanted to do this summer: crochet like there's no tomorrow! WOO!! Okay that's only half true. But yea, I really have nothing to do now. Besides the one hour I work a week (as a tutor), I am totally free. And I have 1 AND A HALF MORE MONTHS OF IT! BOOYAH! So who wants to hang out and/or see movies for free with me? I know I do, if I were friends with me which I am. Anyway. I saw Signs and Austin Powers 3 today, finally. Let me tell ya, not that great. I think it was funny how M. Night Shyamalan plays the out-of-place Indian person in the middle of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Also, Mike Myers needs to come up with some new jokes. Cameos are funny, but you can't rely on them to get all your laughs. I'll let it slide this time cuz he's Canadian. Overall, both movies were entertaining, but not as great as I hoped they'd be.
Randomness: Koalas are lame.
8/1/02 - AUGUST. This is my month, baby. Birthday countdown: 29 days.
7/30/02 - I realized there's not enough UCLA stuff on my website so I took the liberty of making this wallpaper instead of studying for my biology test tomorrow. Thank you.
7/29/02 - So recently I've been remembering my dreams more.. which is weird cuz I usually don't. Wanna hear about them? Well this is MY site so you don't really have a choice. In my first dream I dreamt that I was smoking pot with some of my friends, and I polished off a whole joint in one long drag. Then I started getting dizzy, and I remember I was looking at a guy in a truck and then the guy looked kinda small for the truck so I started laughing hysterically. I remember laughing at some other stuff but I don't remember what. My other dream involved me saving everyone from a really bad person. But the only way I could stop this person was if I drove him off this cliff, thus killing myself as well. So I decided to go for it cuz I am a man of action, and so I drove off the cliff. Then I bounced a few times and hit the bottom and then got up. I was confused cuz I wasn't dead. I don't think the bad guy was dead either. I kicked him. And then my last dream was that Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 was my roommate last year and I went on tour with him. And then during their concert they told me to take off some of my clothes. You know, cuz Blink 182 likes to get nakeds. So I took off my shirt and started dancing around. Mark commented on how much weight I've been gaining and that's where the dream ends. Oh yea, and a couple of my college friends were there and throwing balls at each other.
Randomness: So yea I guess that just shows that I'm just as random when I'm sleeping as when I'm awake. Hah! Canadians.
7/22/02 - Observation #1: I am boring. Observation #2: crappy movies are only good if they're free, and even then.. they're not that good. I saw Eight-Legged Freaks today. For free. It was everything I expected it to be. But a little worse. That movie, along with the 10 minutes of prime time telivision I watched tonight, has shattered any hope I had for the future of American entertainment. I was watching this new show called Meet My Folks, which I guess sprung from Ben Stiller's movie a couple years back, except this time.. IT'S REAL. That show, Elimidate, Spy TV, Dog Eat Dog, and Big Brother do a good job at portraying the decay of western society. Remember when TV shows used to have writers? and storylines? and entertainment value? We need more shows like The Cosby Show, or Who's the Boss? or Charles in Charge. Not this reality TV business! Please! ..not that I'm saying we should stop watching TV. NO! Are you crazy?? TV is what provides quality entertainment like Iron Chef and American Gladiators! TV let us live out our wild sides vicariously through the Fonze, and our dreams of living in a SoCal castle through the Fresh Prince! TV gave one of the greatest actors today, Tom Hanks, his start playing a heterosexual transvestite in Bosom Buddies! Without him we wouldn't have great films like Turner and Hootch or The 'Burbs. Really now. Keep things in perspective, people. But honestly, do we really need 50 different reality TV shows in order to be entertained these days? Gimme a break! I'm John Stossel, and thank you for tuning in to.. 20/20!
Randomness: Here's a haiku for you all to finish:I like my porpoise
It cheers me up when I'm sad.
(insert ending here. Remember: it must be five syllables.)Email me your endings or just sign my guestbook with them. Okay, this is just a desperate attempt to get people to sign my guestbook. I admit it. I'm needy. Okay, ready... GO!
7/21/02 - Here's a haiku for you:Look at the giraffe
Thinks he's God's gift to women
I wish I was tall.
7/18/02 - I went to Jon Stein's birthday party last night. We surprised his ass! Yea it was good times. I ate so much. On top of that Jon dared me to drink the garlic butter sauce that came with our Papa John's pizza, and of course I drank it. Okay he didn't really dare me, he just told me to do it. And I did. It was pretty gross. Not the grossest thing, but it's up there. When I'm 26 and dying of heart disease I'll have this to blame on it. It feels like I'm always busy these days. Yet the days continue to go by slower than EVER. Sup wit dat? I dunno! All I know is it's 1 AM and I can still feel the fat from the sauce trudging through my veins.
Sidenotes: Uhh yea I'm almost running out of space at this web page so I'm going to have to start a new one soon and bring them together. Like a man and his monkey. Also, I'm getting pretty close to 3000 hits, which is amazing. Thanks for the support dawgs.
Randomness: Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.
7/12/02 - Ugliest cars EVER: Toyota Echo, Pontiac Aztec, Honda Insight, BMW Z coupe. That is all, for now.
7/6/02 - I saw Lilo and Stitch today with Edelyn. It was allright. It's no Little Mermaid but it will suffice. I remember when Disney characters used to be attractive. And you know what else? The other day I went to McDonald's with Christina and a cheeseburger was 96 cents. 96 CENTS! That's almost a dollar! Remember when they used to be 69 cents? Well I sure do. I also remember when gas was 79 cents a gallon. And a matinee movie ticket cost $5.25. Not this 7 dollars garbage we have now. Five dollars and a quarter! A Lincoln and a Washington would get you into a movie before 6 PM. Or before 2 PM on weekends. Note: The previous bitter reminiscing was brought to you by Disney's Lilo and Stitch! Playing in theaters everywhere.
Highlights: I got my first tutoring job! I'm tutoring geometry to a soon to be 9th grader. Now all I have to do is figure out what this "geometry" stuff is, and what "9th grader" means.
Randomness: Alex Wang's Love Boat Countdown: 3 Days! Go get 'em tiger!
6/29/02 - Man, Iron Chef is such a great show.
Randomness: Someone pointed out that I have really big toes. So I guess I have pretty big toes.
6/27/02 - So I've decided to take matters into my own hands regarding this little job dilemma I have (that being the lack OF one). I, William Sam, am now whoring the knowledge I have accumulated from 12 years of public education and 1 year at UCLA to Chinese parents who shop at Tin Tin and want their kids to get that extra grade point. That's right, I'm going to be a tutor. Yea there's really no big news there, but I just think it's funny cuz the way I plan to get students is to just go to the Chinese supermarkets around hear and post up flyers. You know, the kinda where you rip off the phone number from the bottom. There's only one word to describe this plan: GHETTO! Okay well I think I'll put the flyers up tomorrow. Let's see how many calls I get back, shall we? Don't worry, I'll keep you guys posted.
Randomness: I think we need to get the word "uberdork" into circulation. Say it with me. Uberdork.
6/24/02 - I saw Minority Report tonight. It was pretty freakin good. At the theatre I saw a couple friends of mine movie hopping. I didn't say anything. I guess that makes me an accessory to the crime. That's right folks, I'm officially on the lam.
Randomness: Hey, Spiderman was a good movie, allright?
6/22/02 - Stores I have applied to as of today: Mimi's Cafe, Frankie, Johnny, and Luigi's Too, Chili's, Cybercamps, Sam Goody, Anchor Blue, American Eagle, Mervyn's, McWhorter's, and yes, even Cold Stone. Calls back from stores I applied to: 0. I just don't get it. I'm a likable guy, right? RIGHT?? Yet they still won't hire me. Well it's THEIR LOSS! I didn't wanna work for those jerks anyway. They probably couldn't handle me and my revolutionary new ideas. They're just afraid to take risks. Risks like hiring me. CACK! Oh well whatever. Here's a tip for you job-seekers out there- DO NOT APPLY TO MERVYN'S. Their application was the biggest waste of time ever. They ask you 70 multiple-choice questions about how happy you are with your life. Do they think their employees are gonna commit suicide in the middle of the Sideout section or something? I guess working at Mervyn's can do that to you. Yup, so I guess I'm stuck taking summer school this summer. Oh well I really don't mind.. I just feel bad about spending so much money when I know I didn't earn a cent of it. It's allright, allright? Everything's cool.
Randomness: Remember Coolio? What happened to that guy?
6/19/02 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROL! Today I saw Insomnia with Jon and Mori. It was pretty good. But I was sad when Robin Williams died because c'mon! it's Robin Williams! It's MORK! Oh sorry if I just ruined the movie for all of you. Oh for cryin out loud, you know he's gonna die anyway! He's the bad guy! I didn't ruin anything. Oh, I also turned in my job applications today to Chili's and Mimi's and Frankie Johnny and Luigi's. Tomorrow I'm goin to the mall to apply to American Eagle and Pac Sun. I don't know if I have the right look for those stores. For one thing, I buy all my clothes at Target. For another thing, I'm not what most people would call "attractive" so yea we'll see how that goes. Allright everyone, wish me luck!
Randomness: Al Pacino is way too old for EVERYTHING.
6/18/02 - HOME that's right, kids, I'm home! Yes it's really great to be back here in sunny Cupertino, where the Asians are as abundant as British on a meat pie. OOH! Well it's not like it's any different from UCLA. But yea it's really great to be home. I got my own room, my own bathroom, my own papasan chair, and MY OWN GUITAR! Yes I finally get to play with it! I've been waiting all quarter, man. It's 3 AM right now, so if I'm being weird don't worry about tit. Then again, I'm always weird. THIS IS THE WORLD OF RANDOMNESS. WEIRD IS MY MIDDLE NAME. IT IS SECOND NATURE TO ME. Where am I? Oh yea, I'm at home. Haha! Weird. Let's try something new today. I'm not going to edit this entry. well i've been editing until now, but now i'm just gonna stop. Ucually i go back and fix typos, or if something sounds dumb i delete it and say something else. =BUT NOT THIS TIME! finals week was hell. No really, it was. i will Never again HAVE a friday final! especially spring quarter. It was virtually impossible to study for my physics final on friday , ucuz of of everyone partying and whatnot. well whatever. it's over. And my greades suck butthole. oh wells. so yea i got back yesterday at 6. we had dinner, then 5 hours later Daniel, jon chan, Sean, and Mori came over and hung out. good times. they left at 2, then i went to sleep at 4. i'm trying to fix my sleeping patterns this summer but yea i just don't see that happening right now. it is currently 3:17 AM and i'm updating my website when i should be sleeping. WHY? because alex wang told me to, and i want this place updated before he goes online tomorrow. i am quite the bitch. i give, and i give and i GIVE and you people just demand MORE! by people, i mean YOU ALEX~! haha just kidding, i love you man. but not in that way. Carol came over today and we made pizza. FROM SCRATCH. that's right, hombres, i made the dough and the sauce and EVERYTHing~ ! it was good. i also tried building my resume today and i realicsed that i have no skills and experience doing anything apart from mixing ice cream and singing songs about a cold stone. i'm probably going to get hired by the circus. oh wait, i don't even have skills as a freak. Well then. i have no idea what i'm going to do this summer. I'm goin job hunting tomorrow with christina so i'll let you guys know how that goes. allright, tootles!
randomness: You know what i like most about summer at home? being able to sit around in my underwear and chat online in peace.
6/5/02 - It's June already and I'm hot as a mo. In more ways than one! HA HA! Yup it's June. One and a half more weeks of school. Where does the time GO? Wait, I know the answer to that question.. INTO THIS WEBSITE! THAT'S WHERE! It's okay though.. now that I have people who actually check my website regularly it gives me a reason to go on wasting time on this thing. Thanks Alex and Emily! You are the wind beneath my wings. The apple of my eye. The fruit of my loom. Yes. If anyone else of you check my website regularly and feel you should be mentioned as well, just tell me and I will reprimand you for wanting so much attention, but you will eventually get on here somewhere. Just kidding about the reprimanding part. Yea, so I have finals next week and this will probably be the last time I update before June 14th. So my suggestion to you, the loyal fans of randomness, is to just read a few words of this update each day, so it will stay fresh and exciting until the end of finals. Just make sure no one tells you the surprise ending. Okay, well that's about all I have to say for today. Oh yea, I bought this Sobe Energy drink the other day, the citrus flavored one, and it was sick! I had to choke it down cuz I didn't want to waste my $1.50. Anyway yea don't get that flavor. There was also this guy on Bruin Walk today giving free samples of energy drink. He had wild blue hair and he was wearing a bright orange leotard. It reminded me of me in my younger days.
Ohhh, one more thing, the AACF banquet was great! I had a blast doing worship and playin drums and ish. Oh, and thanks to Chris, Paul Zimmerman, Sanny, Kim, Jon, Gordon, Sarah L, and Sara W for coming to visit me during an otherwise uneventful 9th week. It's so great that you guys are done with school and I'm not. Okay that's it.
Being Jeremy Ma: Yea I gave that up weeks ago. YOU KNOW WHAT?? I'M GONNA BE MY OWN MAN, SO TAKE THAT, ENGINEERING!
Randomness: SURPRISE!!
5/24/02 - Wow, I think I maxed out the space with my last college life update, so I'm putting new updates here and and putting the old entries in an archive. MY LIFE IS SO EXCITING!! - Well, after a week of semi-hardcore studying (well, hardcore for me), I managed to do so-so on my math midterm.. which I'm not too disappointed about but not ecstatic either. I'm just glad that it's done. I am done with midterms for my freshmen year. DUFF MAN... FEELS GOOD! OH YEA! Okay, anyway when I was studying on Tuesday, Jane Park and I were writing Haikus about each other. Haikus are one of the lesser appreciated forms of poetry, I think. We need to give those Japanese poets more credit. Here is one for Jane:Rice pudding is great!
I could eat it forever.
My name is Jane Park.
And that's the way we do things at UCLA.
Randomness: I just wrote a haiku. Isn't that enough for you?? Honestly, you people ask way too much of me.
and HERE are my archives: 2/23/02 - 5/16/02.
