Sound System
Behind every good custom car is a good sound system. With that in mind, I
decided to replace the Hyundai's existing 40 watt system. I began by
replacing the factory tape deck. I decided upon a Sony Digital D-Bass CD
deck. The system features a CD player, A.M. , F.M. radio, and a detachable
face for those individuals who would rather take my stuff than buy their
own. This system puts out about 35 watts X 4 channels. Although it
enhanced the sound of the factory speakers, it still didn't sound good
enough. So, I installed a set of pioneer 6X9 3-way door speakers in the
doors and in the rear. The factory tweeters in the front remained because
they still sounded pretty good. Next I install a Cerwin-Vega Stealth Series
10" subwoofer which operates at about 200 watts nominal and 400 watts peak
rms. This sub is powered by a 200 watt X 2 Urban Audio Works amplifier. Since
my subwoofer doesn't need to operate in stereo sound, I bridged the amp to
put out 400 watts by 1 channel. The subwoofer integrates very nicely into the
system. The result of this is a superb sounding audio system. I don't usually drive around town blasting it, but if I ever want to blow someone off the road, it's nice to know it's there.
