H1> Why go to Hungary?</H1>

Hungary, because of its geographical location and habitat is home to a large number of species of breeding birds. Spring and fall migration (passage, in British English) is also quite exciting.

Hungary has a nationwide network of passionate birders and ornithologists, many of whom are involved in bird banding. They would love to have you spend some time with them in one of their many yearly banding camps in the lush, green Hungarian countryside.

When they are not banding, many of these Hungarian birders would be happy to go birding with you. Most Hungarian birders speak English, or German (if not both), along with several other languages.

Please be aware of the current economic changes in Hungary. While we are a friendly people who love visitors (warning: if you visit Hungary, you will gain weight!), the average Hungarian citizen is not well off, financially. Many of the Hungarian bird people that you come into contact with do not own their own computers, rather, they use the computers at their school, or place of employment.

House Sparrow, Passer domesticus is a common bird in Hungary, along with its cousin, the European Tree Sparrow, Passer montanus which is found only in the countryside.
