There are many good books about the birds of Hungary. As with anywhere else, it is advisable to have field guides with both illustrations and color photographs. Here are the books that I recommend:

Vannak jo könyvek Magyarország madarairól, és arrol, hogy hol lehet madarakat látni. Sajnos, nem lehet mind magyar nyelven találni. Az visszont nem mindig baj, mert alkalmat ad gyakorolni az idegen nyelyveket!

Mindig ajánlatos több fajta könyvet használni a madarak azonositásához: Színes rajzokkal és fényképekkel.

This is Gerard Gorman's book, which I so highly recommend for foreigners planning on visiting Hungary. When I lived in Hungary I was not a birder, so when I visited Hungary in 1994 to see my relatives and birds, I was ready, thanks to Gerard's book. Mr. Gorman is a professional bird guide in Central Europe, and his services are worth every penny. There more books by Gerard on this part of Europe at the bottom of this page.

This book, written in Hungarian, is titled Hungary's Bird Guests. It deals with birds that migrate to, from, and through Hungary. Ez egy hasznos könyv ami azokkal a madarakkal foglalkozik, amelyek az évnek csak egy részét töltik országunkban.

Ah, Peterson Field Guides: my favorites! I have "Petersons" on American (east and west) birds, Mexican Birds, advanced birding, western (US) trees, reptiles and amphibians, western (US) butterflies, and animal tracks. The one on European birds has good maps, great drawings, and the names of each bird in Latin, English, German, Dutch, French, and Swedish.

Nem tudom, hogy meg lehet-e még szerezni ezt a Peterson Europai Madár Kalauzt magyar nyelven az orszagban, de könyvtárban biztos megvan.

The countryside of this part of the world is lush, green, and full of exotic birds that are not found in the rest of Europe. Gerard has extensive experience birding this whole area.
