The Hortobágy

The Hortobágy is one of the most important bird areas in Europe (Gorman, 1991). It has 3 main types of habitat: puszta, marsh, and fish-ponds. Puszta is natron-steppe habitat that has birds that will only breed on its grounds, such as the Hungarian race of Short-toed Lark.
