Linda Bohannon--Nominated for Poet of the Year 2001

Hello my name is Linda D.Bohannon. I was nominated by the Poetry Society for Poet of the Year 2000. I wasn't able to get to Washington D.C. August 2000 because of the cost involved in the convention, hotel, airfare...etc. Today is January 1st, 2001 I've just received my notice that I've been again nominated for Poet of the Year 2001. The Spring convention takes place in Orlando,Florida. Amazingly on the weekend of my birthday, March 2-4. This doesn't give me alot of time. However, I would be so proud and honored to be present to take in the symposium and learning workshops, as well as attend the award ceremony that promises to be the highlight of my poetry career. To have this honor two years in a row is astounding. I hope that there will be others who feel honored to help me in this endeavor to be presented with this award. I would be very grateful and would honor them with an autograph poem selected personally by me, from my own collection.

A while ago, I received in the mail an invitation to submit an unpublished poem for publication to the "Elite Poets 2000" Special Volume. This is the second time I've received this honor. After my writers block I produced two poems today that I feel are complimentary to the E.P.2000 as well as the convention. I have in my collection over 50 poems. I've lost count...I still have many I need to type up as most are in handwritten form. Scribbles at best ...but alas that is what a poet does :) We grab what piece of paper, napkin we have nearby before our thoughts escape us. :)

You can see my first requested submission at Poetry.com in the publication "America at the Millennium" book --named "Hope" which is scheduled for release September 2000.

The difference in the request and submiting a poem for a contest is this--I am being judged by the quality of my work based on the previous submissions, then asked for to submit an unpublished poem which is then guaranteed for publication--I do not have to wait to see if it will be chosen. This is a great honor for me. As I am being recognized for my talents. I have been informed that there is a contest for this submission, but that the publication is guaranteed.

I've been fortunate to have all the poems i've submitted published in some volume or another.

I hope to raise funds for publication of a collective of my work & if this is possible I would arrange to present a signed copy at base cost [if any] to my sponsors for their very own library.

My hopes for the future are to work in the direction of songwriting. Especially country music. I have a few in the works already. I love to listen to country songs, its amazing how a poet can hear the rhyming of the verses--poetry in the background. Stories they tell.

I have five posted at Poetry.com. "The Pearl in the Shell", "Grandma's Eyes", "A different Best Friend" & The Millennium Publishing "Hope" and "Forgotten but Remembered" which is the new one just submited for the Montel Williams special gift to support MS.

I also have one called "Air Waves" by Linda D. LeCompte. A few years back.

I hope you will enjoy them as I loved writing them. Yours truly, LynnDB

My other musical favorites besides my keithUrban link range from Celine Dion to the BackStreet Boys, to Savage Garden. Growing up with Elton John --I have a whole collection of his RP's.

I believe if there were no music, we'd have a society that could not cope.

Music thru artist & poets...who help release these feelings of "Hope"

Not only do so to help themselves but to help others relate

and let them know they are not alone in their silent fate.

For isn't that what Hope is --that we can get through our sorrow,

knowing deep inside that we can look forward to the rainbow

& a brighter Tomarrow.
