Thy Kingdom Come

When Christ spoke these words he was saying to pray Come, thy Kingdom.. The word used is one of declaration. A declaration of what has happened and what we want to happen. It in itself is a prayer on par with come quickly Lord Jesus, come.

What is God's kingdom? First it is the Kingdom in visible form. Daniel 7:14. This is the only Kingdom that the Jews were expecting. Even John the Baptist was confused when he saw the work of Christ. He sent disciples to Jesus to ask if He was the Messiah. The Kingdom of God is that final resting-place of all the saved in the new heaven and new earth. It is that place in the book of Revelation where there is no more tears or pain. It is our hope of glory.

This Kingdom however will not be here in its fullness for quite some time. In the meantime the Kingdom of God is still here, in seed. Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God was like a mustard seed. The smallest of seeds, that when planted, grow us to be the greatest of bushes. Jesus taught that the kingdom of God was not of this world John 18:36. He also taught that the Kingdom of God is within you, Luke 17:20-21. It is a kingdom that is brought through the Power of the Holy Spirit 1 Cor 4:20. Notice it is more than words. Paul in Romans 14:17 says that the kingdom of God is rightousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. What are these verses trying to get us to understand...? The Kingdom of God is a present reality in our lives. In fact you could say that the Kingdom of God is that work which God is doing in our hearts that is evidenced through our loving each other in the Church. The spiritual principle is this The kingdom within must precede the kingdom without

Jesus was concerned about this kingdom, it is how he began and ended his ministry. It is what He taught in His ministry. Its what we need to focus on in ours. The Kingdom of God. When we pray... thy Kingdom come. We are asking God to be manifest first in our lives, then in the world. Our focus must be the kingdom of God. Seek ye first His kingdom and His rightousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

When you pray thy kingdom come you are asking God to redeem your life. To bring everything in your life under the control of the Holy Spirit. A prayer to focus everything that you are on God. The kingdom begins in your heart. Jesus preached a spiritual kingdom. That spiritual kingdom finds its power through the Spirit. It is advanced by spiritual means...prayer and fasting. Here are two points to keep in mind:

First: His Kingdom must first be established in your heart before it can be established in the world.

Secondly: His kingdom must be established in your heart before you can understand the will of God.

There are some areas that you need to consider as you declare that God's Kingdom is to come. Look first to your own life. Is there anything in your life that has not been brought under the Lordship of Christ? Is there anything in your life that needs attention. For example words attitudes, behaviour, desires, habits, fleshly patterns, thoughts, feelings, fears, etc. Jesus told us first to remove the log in our own eye before we look at the specks in our brother's eye. He was teaching a kingdom principle.

Next look at your relationships. Preferably in the order of those closest to you, those in the church, friends outside of the church, those who are lost and aren't your friends (Isaiah 43:5-7). Pray for the harvest. The kingdom of God is here in Power. That is one key theme of Ephesians that we have been focusing on. Pray in Power.

The third area of your life that you need to consider are those in leadership. I needn't say more on this subject. The leaders of the world need to be prayed for so that they can make right decisions. Decisions that will cause God's Kingdom to advance.

Do your want God's Kingdom? Where is God's Kingdom according to the Bible? If your life is an example of the Kingdom, how healthy is the kingdom? Do you find yourself complaining about others while there are things in your life that need to be looked at? Based on these principles, How can anyone rebuke someone? When you rebuke someone is it because your are mad or angry? Has the Kingdom come in your own heart? Pray right now and ask God to reveal anything in your life that needs to be looked at? Are there relationships that need to be healed? Have you done something to hurt someone out of your own selfish anger? Is there something that you need to fix? If someone has hurt you, do you need to forgive? Are you praying for God's kingdom to come in their lives? Are you praying for the Harvest? Are you asking God to bring souls from the east west north and south? Are you concerned about the lost? If not, there's an attitude to begin praying about!! Will you commit to pray for the Lost, today? Have you been praying for leaders? Your pastor, the other pastors in Mississauga, the leaders of this city, nation, etc.
