JEREMIAH

Jeremiah

I bought Jeremiah the first time when he was only five years old. He was the product of an old Walker mare put to pasture with an old Morgan stallion. Nobody thought the two could still function, but Jeremiah proved otherwise. When I bought Jeremiah he was so niave. He had been born in the backyard and lived there his whole life. He had never seen anything except what was in his little world. It took four of us to get him out of the yard and into our trailer. Poor Jeremiah was terrified.

Jeremiah was my first attempt at training. I took my time and soon he learned to trust me and it didn't take long before we were best buddies. Jeremiah was my parade horse, my trail horse, and he even served on the possee with me for five years.

After a divorce and a move to Tehachapi I decided to sell Jeremiah. He was about 12-years-old. I was working two jobs and didn't have the time to spend with him. I thought I found him a good owner, but it seems he was only with that owner for a year and then sold to someone else. He was only ridden a half dozen times in the almost nine years he was away from me.

When my grandchildren came to live us we were searching the newspaper for ponies. We happened upon an ad for a Walker/Morgan cross and had to call on it. I had been searching for my old horse for over two years and was hoping that maybe the ad was him. Well, it turned out that it was my old horse, and he was 21. There was no question as to whether or not to buy him, it was just how soon could we get him home.

Jeremiah has been with us since December 1998 and he has brought back my desire to ride. Before we got him back we had horses, but I was never enthusiastic about riding them. Now that I have my sweet baby back I'm very happy. He made me realize the thing that was missing was the love we shared and the smooth ride of a gaited horse. Jeremiah will never leave me again.

On August 21, 2000 Jeremiah passed away. He will always be in my heart and there will never be a horse that can replace him. He was my true best friend.
