A Reason For Thanks

As 1999 comes to an end, and a new century begins, I look back on my life and am grateful to have been part of the many changes that have taken place around me. Although the life that I have been blessed with was and is not considered the "norm", I have not fared too badly, as I am still alive. Having been "born this way" is no different than my hetro sisters, except no one tried to reprogram their minds into thinking any other way than being housewives and second class citizens. I am grateful to be living in a country that boasts "land of the free" and then taxes me to pay the powers that be to pass laws against my very exsistance. I am proud to be who I am, therefore I display the "colors" so that the hate filled people around me can call me all their dirty little names, as they drive down the roads that my taxes help build. I am grateful for a place called Provincetown, where even though I do not always feel safe there, I can be me and walk hand in hand with the women I have loved and will love in the future. I am grateful everytime I find a new haven for my sisters where even for a few hours I can live a "normal" life. As the new century begins, I am most thankful for the many woman who stand beside me as I try and make a safe haven for us all called "My Sisters House". I am thankful for the hours they so devotedly give me that we may all help each other in making this world we live in a safer place. I am thankful to all the sisters who visit our web site and pass it along to others, and am always happy to hear their responses and advice on how to make it better. If in our daily lives we could just take a few moment to "count our blessings" and share even one moment with someone less fortunate then ourselves, what a great world this would be. In closing we must all remember....I AM WHAT I AM, AND WHAT I AM, NEEDS NO EXCUSES....... Written by :Bestwolf

Baseball

Finally the world series is over and I for one think that any lesbian team in the united states could have played those damn Yankees and won!! The shame of these grown men being paid so much to be such poor players. Hell any woman in the country paid less of course could have beaten any of the contenders. It is a good thing that they do not have e-mail in the dugouts!! Its about time the self respecting women in this country demanded a game with these over paid "boys" and show the country a real good game of baseball. So how about it ladies....are there any women out there ready to do battle like Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs (tennis) did in 1974??

France Gives Unwed Couples Rights

PARIS (AP) - French legislators have passed a law giving unmarried couples - including gays - the same status as married couples, including the right to file joint tax forms and to bring foreign partners to France. The National Assembly approved the law Wednesday by a vote of 315-249, nearly a year after it was introduced. Leftist lawmakers praised the law and stood up after the measure passed. Justice Minister Elisabeth Guigou, a Socialist, said the law would help 'diminish homophobia and intolerance.'' In France, the law would affect mainly the 4.4 million heterosexual couples who live together but are not married. Forty percent of French children are now born to unmarried couples. The number of gay couples is unknown. Conservatives argued the Civil Solidarity Pact, better known by its acronym PACS, would undermine traditional family values. They also feared the law would lead to lifting rules forbidding gay couples to adopt or have children by artificial insemination. But the Socialists, who introduced the bill, said the law would better protect couples, regardless of their gender. Similar legislation already exists in several European countries, including Iceland, Belgium and Sweden. Laws in Denmark and the Netherlands are even more liberal. The PACS law would, among other things, let couples file tax forms together after three years; help people bring foreign partners to France; force employers to take couples' joint vacation plans into account; and make partners accountable for each others' debts. The PACS proposition also would make separation easier. A partner who wants to split from the other would be able simply to send a letter of separation to their partner and to the court. In Germany, Volker Beck, a leading lawmaker with the Greens, junior coalition partner in Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's government, welcomed the French step. He said it would provide ``a tailwind for the German discussion'' on allowing gays to register partnerships. German Justice Minister Hertha Daeubler-Gmelin, a Social Democrat, said last month she intended to introduce a bill to grant some legal status to same-sex couples. But she said her bill would not include the right to adopt children.

Brother Admits Shooting Gays

REDDING, Calif. (AP) -- One of two brothers charged with killing a gay couple in July has admitted shooting them in their bed, The Sacramento Bee reported today. In a jailhouse interview, Benjamin Matthew Williams insisted Thursday that his younger brother, James Tyler Williams, who also is charged in the killings, had nothing to do with the crime. Williams told the newspaper that he killed the men because he believed their homosexuality violated God's laws. He said he hoped his violence would incite more killings. ``I'm not guilty of murder,'' said Williams, a 31-year-old landscaper. ``I'm guilty of obeying the laws of the Creator,'' which he said holds that homosexuality must be punished by death. ``You obey a government of man until there is a conflict,'' he said. ``Then you obey a higher law. So many people claim to be Christians and complain about all these things their religion says are a sin, but they're not willing to do anything about it. They don't have the guts.'' James Tyler Williams, 29, declined to be interviewed, but in July told the Redding Record Searchlight that he did not participate in the killing. Both men have pleaded innocent in court. The elder Williams' court-appointed attorney, Frank J. O'Connor, told the newspaper he wasn't surprised by his client's comments. ``It's not a whodunit,'' O'Connor said. He confirmed that his client is hoping to use a ``religious defense'' when the case goes to trial. The brothers face charges of robbing and murdering Winfield Mowder, 40, and Gary Matson, 50, who were found dead July 1 in the rural Northern California community of Happy Valley. The victims' home had been burglarized and their car stolen. Investigators have said that evidence found in the brothers' homes also link them to fire bombings which did nearly $1 million damage to three Sacramento area synagogues on June 18, including hate literature, handwritten notes about synagogue members and news accounts of the fire bombings. They have not been charged in those cases, which are under investigation by the FBI and a hate crimes task force.
