Cancer & Treatment is frightening regardless of how old you are.

Making Happy Colored Hats & LapGhans for cancer patients is a small way of bringing some sunshine an comfort into the lives of both young and old.

In my book, those fighting cancer are hero's, they have no choice but to fight this desease.
You can bring a little sunshine into there lives by making some Happy Colored Hats (Lids For Kids) (or) LapGhans to show them that they're not forgotten or alone.

Please make your Happy Hats (or) LapGhans with Lively Colors to help lift their spirits, you may label them and share a little something about yourself if you'd like as well.
They must be SOFT as their Heads & Bodies are sensitive from treatment.All Sizes will be greatly appreacheted.

Knit or Crocheted hats always welcome.

Use H & I hooks for sm. Childrens caps, and J & K hooks for lg.children/adult caps.

Rnd 1) Ch. 5 and sl st. in first ch to form ring., ch3 counts as first dc from now on, do 11 more dc in ring; join
Rnd 2) ch 3, 2 dc in each st, join
Rnd 3) ch 3, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join
Rnd4 ) ch 3, (dc in 2 st, 2 dc in next) repeat around, join
(NOTE) I make 2 rows of Rnd 4 to make cap a little longer.
Rnd 5 - 12 ) ch 3, dc in each st.around, join
Rnd 13-15) ch 1, sc in each st, join
Rnd 16) ch 3, dc in each st around. join and finish off.
(NOTE) Turn last 5 rows up for cuff

Basic Knit Hat Instructions

Needle Sizes 4 and 8 (3 and 5mm)

With small needles and solid, cast on 76 (82, 90, 96) sts. Work 1" in kl, pl rib. Change to larger needles. Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 7 (7-3/4, 8-1/2, 9)" from beg. Whipstitch up the side, to join into hat base. With a needle and doubled yarn, work needle through the top row of stitches to gather the top; pull tight and tie into knot to secure.
Tie it off and weave in ends. Add PomPom

Using an F or G hook and Baby Fingering or Baby Sprot weight yarn, ch45; sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, and in each ch across row. Ch 1, turn; sc across the row. Continue until there are about 14 rows back & forth. Fasten off. Whipstitch up the side, to join into hat base. With a needle and doubled yarn, work needle through the top row of stitches to gather the top; pull tight and tie into knot to secure. Tie it off and weave in ends.

Row 1: ch 3,(counts as dc throughout) 15 dc in circle, join to top of ch3 (16 dc)

Row 2: ch 3, 2 dc in each st around (32 dc)

Row 3: ch 3, 1 dc in same st, *1 dc in each next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. * repeat around. Join to top of ch 3

Row 4: ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 in next st. * Repeat around, join to top of ch 3

Row's 5 to 11: ch 3, dc in each st around, join

Row 12: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join

Row's 13 & 14: ch 3, 1 dc in each st around, join.

Row 15: ch 2, 1 hdc in each st around, join

Row 16: Shell Border: ch 3, 4 dc in same st, *skip next st, sc in next st, skip next st, 5 dc in next st, *Repeat around
