Well this is it Porsches first real car to have his badge on it, Professor Ferdiand Porsche the man who in the 1920's and 1930's made some of the greatest cars and race cars of that time period. Some of his great works were the 16 cylinder rear engined Auto Union (Now Audi), the Mercedes SSK Sports car and the orignal Volkswagen beatle were just a few of this mans great ideas. In 1948 in Austria the Porsche plant opened and the first car to come off the line was the 356, and the Company was invited to the 24 hours of Le Man in 1951, where the Organizer Charles Faroux guaranteed the the German team would be made welcome.

Two cars were to be entered in the car but both were damaged a few days before the race was to be run, from the 2 cars the team made one good one out of mess of the two. The Drivers were Auguste Veuillet (A Porsche agent in France and who was once a motor cycle racer)with Edmonde Mouche. The car weighed 745 kg (1639 lb) and was powered by s lightly tuned, 44 bhp (1086cc) flat-four Volkswagen engine, top speed was exactly 100mph (162 km/h). The rear wheels were covered to reduce drag, and the underside was faired fir the same reason. The front bumper bar was left in place because it acted as a spoiler and improved stability at speed.
